Looking for a middle name that goes with the name Aurora please

Baby is a week old and everyone keeps asking us for the name but we don't want to announce it until we've decided on the whole name

I thought Rose but we also were considering Evelyn

Other suggestions would be appreciated please

I think short, one syllable, no R’s - Kate, Eve, Jane…

I particularly love Rory for a girl, OP! I think it’s lovely.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 02/01/2025 15:29

One of my colleagues has a daughter called Aurora. Her middle name is Josephine.

I can understand being peeved at the less than complimentary comments, but doesn’t it make you think this is what people in rl will be saying (behind your back and then your daughter’s) about your choice of name? If I were you I’d have it as a middle name.

No

I don't really care what they think! If I tried to consider every single person I met and their thoughts about my child's name I'd never be able to pick anything. It's the privilege of the parents to pick their child's name.

I mean what name is universally liked by everyone?

Should I call her Olivia, that's the most popular girls name in the U.K. or would I then be considered boring because it's so popular?

It's awful, really chavvy. Can you reconsider?

Change her name because a handful of strangers on the Internet told her they don't like it? 🙄 I would never outright say I don't like a name somebody has chosen and given to their child. There are plenty of children in my life who have names I wouldn't choose personally, doesn't make me a better name picker than their parents. People have different tastes, thankfully, or every child would be named the same name! What a horrible comment, an opinion where none was asked, especially after the updates OP has given on how hard a time she has been having!

Maybe I am a chav! In which case it's perfect isn't it?

Congratulations on your beautiful baby girl. Aurora is lovely.

Aurora Bethan
Aurora Nicole
Aurora Mabli (Welsh for lovable)
Aurora Paige
Aurora Kirsten

AuroraElisabeth · 02/01/2025 15:39

I had to name change for this post so I wouldn't out myself. Smile My middle name is Elisabeth so I think that goes nicely. Don't overthink it OP, and don't let the naysayers on this thread get you down. I've lived with the name Aurora for nearly fifty years and it's fine; no-one ever has a problem with it (apart from occasionally the spelling!)

Call someone or something ‘chavvy’ says a lot about a person imo.

I LOVE the name Aurora, with Rory as a short form- would likely have gone for this for my daughter if my wife had let me!

I also love Rose as a middle name (it actually IS my daughter's middle name), but I don't think it sounds right with Aurora- too many Rs, as another poster said.

I definitely think you need a one-syllable middle name. Would you consider Aurora Dawn? "Aurora" actually means "dawn", so I always thought that would be nice.

BootballJoy · 02/01/2025 15:53

I don't understand why people insult names that have already been chosen for children that exist and ignore the actual question being asked. Doesn't make much sense. You see it a lot on sibling questions - a sister for xxx and people insulting the name of the existing child. There's no point at all, the OP is hardly going to change the existing child's name because BigOtter22 doesn't like it.

Baby Aurora (congratulations OP) already has her first name. It's middle name suggestions that are needed.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 02/01/2025 15:59

Ooh yes, I like Aurora Eve.

I'm so invested in this now... My top eight:

Aurora Bea
Aurora Blythe
Aurora Dawn
Aurora Eve
Aurora Fern
Aurora Hope
Aurora Maeve
Aurora Niamh

There's an Elizabeth Barrett Browning poem called 'Aurora Leigh' but maybe that's a bit much! Cool name to have though.

Oh that's very cool! I love that.

HugoYorway · 02/01/2025 16:06

@BootballJoy ,in my case because the baby's name hasn't been registered.
If the child was DC2, I wouldn't comment on DC1's name.

Think about if your little girl can't say 'R' when she starts talking. Rhotacism is quite common in the UK (approx 1 in 8).
I used to work with someone called Chris Rostron and he pronounced his name Cwis Wostwon. He probably found it very embarrassing and very likely had the piss taken out of him so much at school and beyond.
Aurora looks nice written down but the 2R's are v tricky.

mumbruh · 02/01/2025 16:12

Aurora Annabelle
Aurora Claudia
Aurora Winter

Carouselfish · 02/01/2025 16:14

Aurora Jane
Aurora Kate
Aurora Mali
Aurora Bree
Aurora Holly
Aurora Claire

SemperIdem · 02/01/2025 16:29

Congratulations on your new baby, op!

I think a name not ending in the same “ah” sound would work well.

Aurora Claire as suggested by a pp is lovely for both sound and meaning, with Aurora meaning dawn and Claire meaning light.

  1. I'm not the OP- why are you telling me?

  2. The OP has had enough people slagging off her choice of name, I doubt she's interested in your opinion.

orangejacketlamp · 02/01/2025 17:27

Aurora Lou

Grannyinnwaiting · 02/01/2025 18:43

I'm really so sorry OP - I agree with a few others - while it's a very pretty name it's also a very silly, flouncy name - i can't imagine in 25 - 30 years time your Dd working in a serious job, say law enforcement, or finance being pleased to introduce herself as a disney princess - prime trigger for teenage non binary/trans rebellion.

Julianoia · 02/01/2025 18:53

Whilst I agree people can be a touch insensitive, The strange thing is the OP saying she doesn’t care for anyone’s opinions etc… why ask for opinions on an open public forum then 😭

eggandonion · 02/01/2025 18:57

The baby is a week old. She is call Aurora. She doesn't have a middle name, op is considering suggestions.
In real life I like some names which people have called their kids, others I wouldn't choose.
I wouldn't dream of advising someone not to use the name they chose. Because I have rude inlaws. And I'm not rude, or unpleasant to new parents.
I have aname considered ideal for professional people. Mumsnet likes my name. I hate it.

DefyingGravitea · 02/01/2025 21:51

Julianoia · 01/01/2025 21:52

I agree Aurora is a really difficult name. Switch it to middle name instead?

Agree

Waterboatlass · 02/01/2025 21:59

I think some people lack breadth of reference if they jump straight to Disney or Harry Potter (within reason, Mickey and Minnie for twins would be a pretty silly choice). Aurora has existed as a name prior to and outside of Disney for a long time. No Echobelly fans? Aurora Lane?

Not personally a fan of Dawn, too rhymey and literal

Twoshoesnewshoes · 02/01/2025 22:04

Kate, Jane or Louise
