Mirrin/Mirin/Mirren 14 day old baby girl

Help us decide on the spelling! It took long enough to choose her name but we now have options on the spelling 😫 - I didn’t expect this bit to be so hard😅

Mirren is a lovely Scottish name OP, congrats!

Mirin is a Japanese rice wine for cooking. So not even equivalent to Chardonnay but more like Red Wine Vinegar.

I like Mirren but this will be a life time of spelling out her name for people.

I'd go for something more "traditional" like Miriam, Marion, Marianne. I also love Mairead and Muirann. I didn’t have a DD but if I did I would have chosen one of these names.

Our dd1 is Merren! In my defence I'd heard the name in Scotland but never seen it written.

I think I'd go for Mirren if it's the more common spelling where you are.

This is a very strange thing to post.

Muirann (not spelt that way, because the ending rule as gaeilge is caol le caol, leathan le leathan) is actually the Irish spelling of the same name you are suggesting people couldn’t spell in the first line.

Definitely Mirren. If you go with Mirrin she'll spend the whole time correcting everyone.

Why would someone in Scotland choose a Cornish name over a Scottish name though?

Mirren is a pretty standard name here. No need to spend her life spelling it out, it's entirely normal here (n-east Scotland). DD1 has a Mirren in her class and I have a Mirren in my Brownies unit. Maybe if she moves to another country, but then that's the same with loads of names.

If you like the I sound, you could spell it Mirryn.

Though the I and E endings don't sound too different imo.

Sorry I misspelt Muireann. I know a couple of people named Muireann, never known a Mirren so excuse my ignorance. Not sure why it's such a "strange thing to post" when I was just offering my personal opinion. Which is allowed you know.🙄

Your personal experience was not to call a child a name you didn’t know because she’d spend her life spelling it and then you suggested the same name again weird post in my opinion. Which is allowed you know. 🙄

Lovely name- I have never heard of it.

I would spell it the way you want it pronounced otherwise you/ she will be forever correcting people and that's not great for a lifetime of correcting people.

I wouldn't assume Sherry was named after her parents favourite tipple, or Florence was conceived there or Heather was her mother's favourite plant, lots of people are capable of separating a naming person word from a naming thing word.

I did know a Tia Maria once though, name ""elegantly"" tattooed down her mother's forearm in block letters....

Another Scot here, love Mirren and know a couple. She wouldn’t have issues with pronunciation or spelling here unless you went for a version differing to the Paisley football team. I would pronounce the ‘en’ or ‘in’ endings the same tbh but perhaps that is just my accent.
