You don't have to respond to all of these, just general feelings. Also, I'm American, so I've noticed some of these names have a more "dated" connotation in the UK than in the US.

Girls:

Felicity "Flick"

Tessa "Tess"

Juliet "Jules"

Violet

Scarlett

Elizabeth "Eliza"

Sylvia "Sylvie"

Margot

Madeline (pronounced "MAD-uh-LINE") -- how inevitable is the nn Maddie?

Caroline

Susannah

Charlotte

May/Mae

Lily

Dahlia ("DOLL-lee=yah")

Boys:

Miles

Christopher "Kit"

Fraser

Graham (I pronounce it "GRAM"):

Dean

August

James "Jamie"

William

Rowan

Robin (maybe too girly in the US?)

Jasper

Jack

Griffin

I think that any name where there are different pronunciations can cause problems and can set your child up for a lifetime of having to say " it's not grayam it's gram" etc This is especially true if you choose a less common pronunciation.

From your girls names I like Elizabeth Sylvia Caroline and Susannah.
For boys, I like Christopher, James and William.

ReggaetonLente · 19/12/2024 18:52

Why are you pronouncing Dahlia like that? I’ve never heard it said like that.

Anyway, from your girls names I think Caroline and Lily are the nicest, and from the boys, Rowan, James and William.

StressedQueen · 19/12/2024 18:53

Felicity "Flick" - Flick is an absolutely terrible nickname. Felicity is sweet though, if a bit twee
Tessa "Tess" - I really like it
Juliet "Jules" - Gorgeous imo
Violet - Nice but quite popular
Scarlett - Not my favourite, but nothing bad about it
Elizabeth "Eliza" - I just think calling her just Eliza would be much better
Sylvia "Sylvie" - Just call her Sylvie! But it's pretty
Margot - I do like it but it makes me think Maggot
Madeline (pronounced "MAD-uh-LINE") -- It's a lovely name but I don't think you could skive getting Maddie to be honest.
Caroline - Seems a bit old
Susannah - Same, seems a little old
Charlotte - Gorgeous actually. Lottie is so sweet
May/Mae - I think it's too short and very well known as a middle name more
Lily - Lovely but popular
Dahlia ("DOLL-lee=yah") - Horrible imo, that pronunciation would not be said right honestly

Boys:
Miles - I like it
Christopher "Kit" - A lovely name. Kit is good but you'd have to enforce it
Fraser - Terrible
Graham (I pronounce it "GRAM"): - No, I don't understand how it'd be pronounced like that
Dean - It's okay, makes me think of a dean of a school or Gilmore Girls
August - My absolute favourite, it is such a lovely name
James "Jamie" - Also one of my favourites!! Gorgeous
William - It's a bit meh but nothing wrong
Rowan - I LOVE this
Robin (maybe too girly in the US?) - I honestly think of it as a girls name more
Jasper - Love this too!! So much
Jack - Nice but basic
Griffin - Hmm not for me

Fav girls' names: Juliet, Sylvia and Charlotte
Fav boys' names: August, James, Rowan and Jasper

HobnobsChoice · 19/12/2024 18:53

Of the boys names they are all good and lovely except Dean (really dated in the UK), Graham (don't know one under 40 and most over that by a good decade) and if you live in the UK it will always be Grey-um. Griffin to me will always be the lion eagle mythical beast

Of the girls names, all very pretty. Caroline is the name of a dear friend of mine who died this year and a bit like Graham I don't know any under 40. Mae and Lily are so popular as is Scarlett. I think I like Felicity and Sylvia best from your list. Margot is also cute but very 2024/2023 due to Margot Robbie who led to it being v popular

wakeboarder · 19/12/2024 18:55

Lily by far the best girls name 10/10 followed by Mae ( this spelling) 8/10 not keen on any others but always struggle with girls names!Several nice boys names Myles or Miles (prefer Myles) 10/10, Jack and William 8/10. Also like Rowan, it's used less often and has a gentle feel about it.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 19/12/2024 18:55

Using @hiddenselkie formula...

Felicity "Flick" - 10/10
Tessa "Tess" - 1/10
Juliet "Jules" - 4/10
Violet - 6/10
Scarlett -5/10
Elizabeth "Eliza" - 1/10
Sylvia "Sylvie" - 2/10
Margot -3/10
Madeline (pronounced "MAD-uh-LINE") -- how inevitable is the nn Maddie? - 2/10
Caroline - 4/10
Susannah - 2/10
Charlotte - 8/10
May/Mae - 2/10
Lily - 3/10
Dahlia ("DOLL-lee=yah") - 3/10
Boys:
Miles - 10/10
Christopher "Kit" - 10/10
Fraser - 3/10
Graham (I pronounce it "GRAM"): - 0/10
Dean - 6/10
August - 3/10
James "Jamie" - 6/10
William - 3/10
Rowan - 6/10
Robin (maybe too girly in the US?) - 5/10
Jasper - 9/10
Jack - 8/10
Griffin - 10/10

That being said, I'm pretty picky (took months to decide on DS's!) - love Flick, Kit and Griffin though!

DoYouAlwaysHaveToSayThat · 19/12/2024 18:55

The only names I like -

Charlotte (never Lottie or Charlie)
Lily

Jack

FutureMandosWife · 19/12/2024 18:55

I like your names however I found the shortened versions kinda came naturally not pre decided. My wee one has a nickname at school of corr I can't call him that but to me he's buddster, or cookster

ThatCoralMaker · 19/12/2024 18:55

Are you in the US?
I think that makes a difference. I don’t think any of your names are awful but pronouncing Graham as Gram and Dahlia as Doll Lee Yah would be odd here.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 19/12/2024 18:56

wakeboarder · 19/12/2024 18:55

Lily by far the best girls name 10/10 followed by Mae ( this spelling) 8/10 not keen on any others but always struggle with girls names!Several nice boys names Myles or Miles (prefer Myles) 10/10, Jack and William 8/10. Also like Rowan, it's used less often and has a gentle feel about it.

I love Myles with a Y!

FraterculaArctica · 19/12/2024 18:58

Scarlett and Margot v popular round my way in the UK right now. Dahlia and to a lesser extent Madeline will be pronounced wrong this side of the Atlantic.

Dean - this is mega dated and has strong working class connotations. August is totally the opposite, mega posh (Princess Eugenie's son).

MaggieBsBoat · 19/12/2024 18:58

Dahlia ("DOLL-lee=yah") 2/10

Viviennemary · 19/12/2024 19:00

I like

Violet
Elizabeth
Sylvia

None are awful.

Boys
Best

James
William
Jack

Griffin is totally dire

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 19/12/2024 19:02

I started writing comments on all of them but felt like a real bitch. They're ever dull and boring, overused or old names.

I also think jasper is a pet name but know it's a firm fave with the mn crew.

Acceptable, even quite nice, ones as not categorised as above
Tess
Dahlia

Utterly normal but classic so can't be bad
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Jack
William

crazyunicornlady73 · 19/12/2024 19:05

Girls:*

Felicity "Flick" felicity is nice deciding now on "flick" as a nickname seems cringeworthy somehow.

Tessa "Tess" ok

Juliet "Jules" Love Juliet not fussed on Jules but then I hate the idea of deciding a nickname before a child is even born.

Violet: pretty

Scarlett: ok but not a fan

Elizabeth "Eliza": love Elizabeth, but it's such a versatile name...let the child choose their own shortened version.

Sylvia "Sylvie" nope, dated and not my taste.

Margot: love this

Madeline (pronounced "MAD-uh-LINE") -- how inevitable is the nn Maddie? Love Madeline and Maddie.

Caroline: nothing wrong with it as such but just very plain and dated

Susannah: love this name, especially this spelling of it

Charlotte: nice, good solid name

May/Mae: ok but bland

Lily: my all time favourite name

Dahlia ("DOLL-lee=yah") no, too flouncy for real life

Boys:

Miles: not bad but a bit posh for me

Christopher "Kit" love this, especially Kit.

Fraser: he'll be born wearing a paisley waistcoat

Graham (I pronounce it "GRAM"):

Dean: rebel without a cause, but still not keen.

August: dear God no!

James "Jamie" love Jamie or James.

William: nice ordinary name, can't go wrong.

Rowan: I love this but it's unusual for a boy?

Robin (maybe too girly in the US?) not keen

Jasper: like but don't love

Jack: nice but ordinary

Griffin it's a surname to me!

Are you living in the US or the U.K. as I think that would change things.

If in the UK don't use Dahlia or Graham with US pronunciations, you will forever be correcting everybody.

Manchesterbythesea · 19/12/2024 19:06

I like all the girls names bar
Felicity
Sylvia
Madeline
Margot
Dahlia

Boys not so much except Jamie or Jack.
Please don’t call your baby Graham

Gardendiary · 19/12/2024 19:08

Forget about Dahlia and Graham, you’ll never get the prononciation you want in the uk.

ShazzaF · 19/12/2024 19:34

LOVE most of your girls names (also, you get extra points as my own name is one the ones of your list!)

Caroline would have been the name of my daughter if I didn't have an Aunty Caroline (who's lovely, but it would just be a bit odd for me to accidentally name my child after her). It's probably because I love the fleetwood mac song. I also love the nickname Caro.

Sylvia is lovely but if you want Sylvie just call her that, I think it's a proper enough name in its own right.

Jules is nice, but I prefer Julia to Juliet - Julia just seems stronger to me.

Dahlia is fine, but I'm not quite sure about your pronunciation

Lily is fine but there are soooo many Lilys right now so be aware of that! 🤣

I'm less keen on your boys names.

I do like Jasper a lot (again I've a relative with this name, or else I'm sure it would have been a contender for me too!)

August is fab, as is Robin.

I love Christopher with nn Kit, but I don't know how successful you'd be with getting everyone to use the nn.

If you're in the UK, don't use Dean, Fraser or Graham imo (also nobody British will ever pronounce it "gram")

"Jack" is not a proper name IMO, but I am very aware most people will think that's a slightly bonkers opinion.

user2848502016 · 19/12/2024 19:38

Felicity "Flick" - I like Felicity not keen on Flick
Tessa "Tess" - lovely
Juliet "Jules" - Juliet lovely Jules not so much,
More of a boys nickname in UK?
Violet - lovely
Scarlett - personally I like but maybe a bit dated in UK
Elizabeth "Eliza" - lovely timeless classic
Sylvia "Sylvie" - not keen
Margot - lovely
Madeline (pronounced "MAD-uh-LINE") -- how inevitable is the nn Maddie? - nice but won't be pronounced that way in UK will be MAD-e-lin and yes likely to become Maddie
Caroline - love it
Susannah - not my favourite
Charlotte - like, Lottie is nice as a nickname, could end up being Charlie in UK
May/Mae - nice
Lily - pretty but a bit boring and quite common in UK
Dahlia ("DOLL-lee=yah") - nice but obviously will be pronounced the British way (DAY lee ah)

Miles - ok but not my favourite, gives middle class banker vibes
Christopher "Kit" - ok
Fraser - nice
Graham (I pronounce it "GRAM"): - old man name in UK and will be pronounced "Gray am" here
Dean - don't like it sorry
August - nice
James "Jamie" - nice, timeless classic
William - one of my favourites (but obviously don't shorten to Willy in UK!)
Rowan - lovely
Robin (maybe too girly in the US?) - lovely, not girly in UK
Jasper - lovely
Jack - nice but very popular here
Griffin - don't like at all
