We have number 2 on the way! What are people's views on the name Camille NN Cami? We are after something elegant but not too frilly and something that will carry them well from childhood to adulthood. How do you imagine someone with the name Camille? Thank you all in advance!

I’m not a fan of Camille but weirdly I love Camilla!

Colourblinds · 04/12/2024 22:02

Love it, dislike Camilla.

stationarykingdom · 04/12/2024 22:02

Love Camille. Hate Camilla

MotherOfCrocodiles · 04/12/2024 22:05

For me Camilla will always be Gonzo's toy chicken from the Muppet Babies (sorry Queen C). But Camille is nicer. Are you pronouncing it "cam-ill" or "cam-ee"? Or something else?

WhereAreWeNow · 04/12/2024 22:06

Camille is pretty. Not sure about Cami though (just makes me think of camisole).

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/12/2024 22:10

I don’t like the “Ca - meal” pronunciation. The French pronunciation is pretty but I’d hate to be “that mum” insisting on the correct French pronunciation (unless I was of French heritage). Cami is ok for short though.

Yes another who thinks Cami is an undergarment. But why not Milly?

Camille is pretty though. If pronounced Camee I’d presume they were French.

mommyandmore · 04/12/2024 22:31

We are not French but we love the country 😍 and often visit. I presume most of my English friends and family would say ca-meel.
DH not a fan of Camilla but likes Camille.

I think Camille is pretty and it makes Milly a more natural Nn.

I think Cami is a bit too reminiscent of camisole. I can just hear the saleslady at our local department store: “ and if you liked these panties, you’ve got your matching silk cami…”

ApoodlecalledPenny · 04/12/2024 23:00

But French people don’t pronounce it Camee do they? It’s not quite a Cameal, but you do hear the L.

Same, I think generally the French versions of names don't work so well in an English accent.

Cami is a bit knicker adjacent though

Snaccidental · 04/12/2024 23:21

I like both :) I know a Camille NN Cami

Colourblinds · 05/12/2024 04:40

The Camille I know is called Cam as a nickname.

sel2223 · 05/12/2024 06:38

I love Camile, beautiful name, very classical

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 05/12/2024 06:52

I love it. My neighbours have just called their first baby Camille.

Definitely Camee in French, trying to think of any regional dialects where you'd hear the L but none coming to mind off the top of my head.

WillowTit · 05/12/2024 07:25

i love camille

NewGreenDuck · 05/12/2024 07:35

I always think of it as being a boys name though. I've met several European men with the name but no females.

You don’t quite hear it.

MerryChristmasToYou · 05/12/2024 07:41

Cami-knickers

MotherOfCrocodiles · 05/12/2024 07:41

I think in French you would hear a very subtle "y" sound where the "ll" is written. As an English person pronouncing it, it would probably just sound like Camee.

MrsBobtonTrent · 05/12/2024 07:43

I just think of Red Dwarf. Soz

Yes. It’s more or less camee-ya.

I think it is a girl’s name predominantly

Flustration · 05/12/2024 07:53

I absolutely love it. I think it's about to get a little more popular in the UK due to Emily in Paris. I think most people would know how to pronounce it.

I know a 2 month old Camille and a teen Camilla. I love both names.
