Baby name!?

Livvysmumhasgotitgoingon · 24/11/2024 15:02

I need brutally honest opinions please because I feel like I could be delusional! Have been thinking of a baby girl names and came up with Valhalla Violet (violet being middle name). We would use Hallie for short as her first name, but we love the idea of a really strong badass name for her that can be shortened to a pretty "normal" name. We also have a dog who's registered kennel club name is Ash Amethyst so we feel like we'd love to stick with the purple middle name theme and the alliteration with both first and middle names starting with the same letter. I just want to get some outside opinions to make sure we're not mad and that our little girl won't be bullied for a crazy name!

I didn't even notice your user name, love it!

Thanks! 😊
My children have Wagnerian names. (My husband vetoed Siegfried for a boy)
Go for Isolde Indigo!

Lallydallydune · 24/11/2024 19:40

I like isolde.

I've met an Isolde, an Iseult and an Imogen.

Both Valhalla and Valkyrie are horrible, and make me think this is a wind-up. But here we go, alliterative purple names:

Vita Violet
Vivienne Violet
Vashti Violet
Victoria Violet
Verity Violet
Vanya Violet
Valentina Violet
Lucy Lilac
Lisa Lilac
Leonie Lilac
Laura Lilac
Laeticia Lavender
Lottie Lavender
Lila Lavender
Meribel Mauve
Poppy Plum
Peri Plum
Portia Plum
Anna Aubergine

Anna Aubergine sounds like a member of the Munch Bunch or the Garden Gang, for those of us of a certain generation!

Lallydallydune · 24/11/2024 19:48

What about

Ava
Avery
Scarlett
Lola
Nova

TheHangingGardensOfBasildon · 24/11/2024 19:51

Nothing wrong at all with Violet or Victoria (not Victory), but even then, I wouldn't use both of them together - it makes the name very 'V'-heavy.

Seen written down, Violet Victory looks too much like 'violent victory' - and we're straight back to Valhalla again!

Hazelmaybe · 24/11/2024 19:52

Vella?

Catlord · 24/11/2024 19:56

If you're interested in Norse mythology, why not go for the name of an actual character whose story is meaningful to you rather than just a random associated word? Valhalla and Valkyrie sound daft. Some useable Valkyrie names are Svava and Sigrun.

We do have quite a few other names associated with norse mythology, Sigrun being one of them! We just haven't shared them on here as we're pretty sure they won't receive the backlash valhalla has 🤣

Veronica
Venellope
Vera
Viviana

Them names ate better tbh

Ooh sigrun is nice

IsoldeWagner · 24/11/2024 20:17

Sigrun is lovely - Sigrun Sapphire?

Balonz?

Atishooo · 24/11/2024 20:51

You both may be Norse nerds, but your child may not be and tbh it reminds me of the quite entertaining fb group ‘Children are not billboards for your fandom’.

You haven’t said if you’ve told people in real life, but they won’t tell you what they really think. I work with kids and we do roll our eyes at some of the names.

Maybe call yourself Valhalla or Valkyrie for a bit and see how it goes down.

Oceangreyscale · 24/11/2024 21:22

Violet Victory sounds great to me.
You can have Victor and Victoria and Tori short for Victoria so Victory is similar, and plenty of names like Joy, Blessing, King, Mercy etc...

Or you may like Viola but it's less purple!

YouHaveAnArse · 24/11/2024 21:33

I'm afraid both have slightly Nazi vibes to me. You'd be making life difficult for your child should she ever want to go and live/work in Scandinavia.

Go for a Norse goddess instead.

Lallydallydune · 24/11/2024 21:41

Vada was a winner

Youvebeenframed · 24/11/2024 21:44

Ah i remember the good old jimberley days!

That was a classic thread.

My first time posting on here and I don't think I'll bother again. We've asked in other places and had much more fair and considerate feedback, even if people don't like the names we've suggested. I'm not expecting to please everyone but didn't expect people to get so offended or insult our character.

In fairness, your opening post specifically asked people to be "brutally honest".

Can I ask which country you will be living in, and what heritage you have?
As that makes a difference to my opinion in terms of using names from particular cultures.

Brutally honest about the name yes, but attacking my personality was never asked for! We're in the UK. We both have Scottish heritage and also some Spanish on my side.

Yeah I agree with this.

I've never understood the reasoning behind 'uber fan' name choices. I've seen people on here and in real life honouring their passions by using the 'look at me' name choice rather than choosing something that is an actual name.

For example, someone who is a fan of ancient Egyptian history choosing to call their child Pyramid or Hieroglyph instead of Meresankh, Cleopatra or Mark Anthony.

The latter options would spark my curiosity and elicit compliments and make me ask questions. I'd just (internally) roll my eyes at the former.

....

OP, if you're truly a fan of Norse mythology surely there are a ton of cool and unheard of actual names you could draw from?

There certainly is, unsure if you've read through the entire thread as it's quite long, but I've said said previously that we have a very long list of name options, and not all norse mythology but a whole array of names, we just didn't think we needed to get opinions on them on here because, as previously stated, we assumed they wouldn't receive the backlash valhalla has 😂 this is why our research was important because I wanted genuine human reactions to gauge how contraversial it might be. As I've previously stated we now agree valhalla is clearly a no go for first name!
