Baby name!?

I need brutally honest opinions please because I feel like I could be delusional! Have been thinking of a baby girl names and came up with Valhalla Violet (violet being middle name). We would use Hallie for short as her first name, but we love the idea of a really strong badass name for her that can be shortened to a pretty "normal" name. We also have a dog who's registered kennel club name is Ash Amethyst so we feel like we'd love to stick with the purple middle name theme and the alliteration with both first and middle names starting with the same letter. I just want to get some outside opinions to make sure we're not mad and that our little girl won't be bullied for a crazy name!

To be honest I think you’re being unfair. I can’t imagine if your child is shy or struggles a bit socially they’d be happy with such a BIG name. It’s a hard thing to live up to. Halle/Hallie is a lovely name. Can’t you use that and say to your dd you were inspired by Valhalla? And then pick another H middle name rather than matching her to a pet by using a purple name?

Happyinarcon · 24/11/2024 18:56

Vesper is a cool name, even though it’s a bike

Funny enough we just discussed this as an option! I think it still works quite well and a bit more subtle. If she's older and likes it she can always swap them round or just go by her middle name. If she hates it then no one has to know 😂

Violet Valhalla is wonderful!

Livvysmumhasgotitgoingon · 24/11/2024 19:01

Everyone seems to think this is the name we've chosen. Just to clarify we absolutely have NOT chosen a name for her and have multiple contenders that we like. We simply wanted opinions on thIs one as its a bit more unusual than our other choices. Please can people stop calling me unfair or mean because at no point have I said "I am going to call my child Valhalla" 😂 we just liked the name and wanted a concensus as a form of research, we are of course not going to name our child something that has such a negative response!

Violet Valhalla is cool but I wouldn't do it the other way around.

Valkyrie unfortunately has slightly white supremacist associations for me, as a given name.

Freya is great but probably too popular for you?

If it doesn't need to be Norse then there are lots of other good strong goddess names around.

Or, Victory?

This is what we're not leaning towards! Violet we adore for multiple reasons and then valhalla is our personal nod to something we love as a couple. A bit more subtle but still some warrior themes hidden in there.

Victory is cute! Potential middle name I think. Violet victory

Is Victory even a name? Surely not. Also, remember that Violet is an adjective too, so if you use it as a first name then having a noun as a middle name makes it a descriptive phrase rather than a name.

Did I read correctly that you're going for an alliterative approach because your dog's kennel club name is alliterative? If so, that seems a bonkers way to narrow your options. You're naming someone who is going to own and use that name for c10 years based on a convention adopted by someone else (presumably the breeder did the kennel club thing?) for an animal?

It seems you've realised Valhalle isn't a wise choice of first name (IMO it isn't a name to be used for a middle name either) but you're hamstringing yourself with all the limitations.

Edited

As previously said we're not dead set on the alliteration, or anything else for that matter. It was just a cute nod to our dog who we love dearly, however we do not care if her name of alliterative or not, as long as we like it. Our dogs name was actually chosen by our seven year old. My sister in laws dog had puppies and she is one that we kept so we registered her name ourselves.

Once again, not sure what these limitations are? We've not made any decisions at all. We're throwing ideas out there and getting a concensus. We've noted that valhalla is clearly not a popular choice, however we still really like it in the running for a potential middle name. It's okay for others not to like it.

The limitations as per your OP...
Alliterative
Something related to purple
A Strong Badass name
Ideally something related to norse mythology...

I personally think both Valhalla and Valkyrie are fantastic names! Quite surprised by how much I like them.
I don't think they're 'bully me' type names either.

Neither did I until this thread! 😂 I thought they sounded awesome but apparently not.
