Baby name!?

I need brutally honest opinions please because I feel like I could be delusional! Have been thinking of a baby girl names and came up with Valhalla Violet (violet being middle name). We would use Hallie for short as her first name, but we love the idea of a really strong badass name for her that can be shortened to a pretty "normal" name. We also have a dog who's registered kennel club name is Ash Amethyst so we feel like we'd love to stick with the purple middle name theme and the alliteration with both first and middle names starting with the same letter. I just want to get some outside opinions to make sure we're not mad and that our little girl won't be bullied for a crazy name!

You have to say valhalla is a great ride in Blackpool pleasure park though.

😂 no one wants to be named after a great ride

Haha you could be named after worse

Atishooo · 24/11/2024 16:18

I don't think that everyone has to have the same boring name.

Im pretty sure there’s a middle ground.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/11/2024 16:19

Valda
Valerie

Lallydallydune · 24/11/2024 16:20

That’s what I thought when I called Ds Big Dipper !

Lallydallydune · 24/11/2024 16:33

I quite like valhalla.

But then my parents gave me quite an unusual name. So I'm used to unusual names.

Maybe she should call her the grand national

BoleynMemories13 · 24/11/2024 16:35

Vida is quite cool and strong sounding if you're drawn to V names. It means life apparently, so quite the opposite meaning but a much nicer one.

It's not to my taste, but it's dar preferable to Valhalla and Valkyrie.

BodyKeepingScore · 24/11/2024 16:45

I can't imagine that any child would feel anything other than extreme embarrassment with a name like that.

BreatheAndFocus · 24/11/2024 16:59

Both Valhalla and Valkyrie are horrible, and make me think this is a wind-up. But here we go, alliterative purple names:

Vita Violet
Vivienne Violet
Vashti Violet
Victoria Violet
Verity Violet
Vanya Violet
Valentina Violet
Lucy Lilac
Lisa Lilac
Leonie Lilac
Laura Lilac
Laeticia Lavender
Lottie Lavender
Lila Lavender
Meribel Mauve
Poppy Plum
Peri Plum
Portia Plum
Anna Aubergine

I'm sorry but you and your DH sound like a pair of try hard, look at us and our cool names types, whereas everyone else will be rolling their eyes.
Valkyrie and Valhalla are dreadful names.

BootballJoy · 24/11/2024 17:14

You could go for the names of one of the Valkyries? Looking on Wikipedia, apparently Hilda was one, and means battle.
Brunnhilda, Sigrun
Freya (goddess of war)
Or other historical warlike figures, Boudicca etc.

J86579 · 24/11/2024 17:15

How about Valerie NN Val?

Livvysmumhasgotitgoingon · 24/11/2024 17:16

If we were "look at us and our cool name types" why would we like names that are so apparently unpopular? We're simply a pair of nerds who are into norse mythology. We're not set in stone I our choices, literally just conjuring some up that we personally liked but wanted to get an outside perspective, hence why we're asking opinions before we make choices. I appreciate honest feedback but christ there's no need for being rude. People are so pressed on here 😂

I want to be called Valhalla now. And ride in somewhere on my horse.

What does pressed mean?

Mumsnet posters tend to not like unusual names in general.

At the end of the day just trust your own gut.

Names can seem out there at the start but people get used to every name.

Yes I'm starting to realise that. My first time posting on here and I don't think I'll bother again. We've asked in other places and had much more fair and considerate feedback, even if people don't like the names we've suggested. I'm not expecting to please everyone but didn't expect people to get so offended or insult our character. I appreciate you being one of the diplomatic ones though, doesn't cost much to be kind!

To say in a funny way: it's a cesspit of negativity on here! It's like it on every thread.

Good luck with the name.

Kindly, Valhalla and Valkyrie are terrible names. Please don't do this to your child when there are so many lovely names to be had.

You'll saddle her with a lifetime of spelling and explaining it for a start.

It's self-indulgent cruelty, but no-one will probably tell you that in real-life.
