Usually I hate anglicised versions of Irish names but I love Maeve.

(Twin with either Charlotte, Phoebe, or Vivienne)

Maeve

RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember · 17/11/2024 18:02

Where do you live?

JaneJeffer · 17/11/2024 18:02

If you love it then use it!

Exactfare · 17/11/2024 18:02

Méabh, or Maeve if you must

If you look at the Irish census data méabh is the most popular spelling

Definitely not Méibh or Meadhbh

Maeve

Maeve

(Bf is Brazilian, so Maeve might be easier for his side of the family)

Maeve.

Pinkissmart · 17/11/2024 18:04

Maeve ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Exactfare · 17/11/2024 18:04

ps I'm Irish living in England, I've got a méabh (and a very Irish name myself)

Be prepared for loads of English to tell you not to use an Irish name even though they'd never dream to say this to anyone from any other culture 🙄

Pss.its an awesome name!

stayathomer · 17/11/2024 18:04

Only ever seen first and last and actually know three Maeves, only reason I know last one is Irish folklore!!

whosaoife04 · 17/11/2024 18:05

@RememberRememberTheMonthofNovember I live in Northern Ireland in a very Catholic area so locals being able to pronounce it wouldn't be an issue however my boyfriend is Brazilian so Maeve would work better for his side of the family

As a Maeve I'd be pretty jealous of these other IMHO stronger names "Charlotte, Phoebe, or Vivienne"

You're name after a warrior queen!

loropianalover · 17/11/2024 18:09

Maeve and Vivienne imo.

Maeve

My nephew (by marriage) lives in Dublin and has an Irish first name with an Irish spelling.

It’s no problem to the non-Irish side of the family. We just needed to be told once how to pronounce it.

Wouldn’t that apply to your boyfriend’s Brazilian family? Choose the spelling you prefer.

I worked with someone from Ireland a few years ago. Her names had English spellings. I notice that now she’s back working in Ireland that, on Facebook at least, they have Irish spellings. It’s up to her what she calls herself. I don’t know what’s on her birth certificate.

MiraculousLadybug · 17/11/2024 18:27

Maeve. Maeve Binchy is phenomenal!

sonjadog · 17/11/2024 18:30

As you are living in Ireland, I would choose an Irish spelling of an Irish name, rather than an English spelling. But you will get a lot of posters who don't live in Ireland saying Maeve, as that is more common elsewhere. I would probably go for Meadhbh, just because I like the way it looks best.

Doitrightnow · 17/11/2024 19:41

I'd choose Maeve but I'm not in Ireland. If in Ireland, I'd choose between Maeve and whichever is most common there.

Soontobe60 · 17/11/2024 20:03

Any option of a Brazilian name?

She’s a brilliant writer but I found all her stories ended sadly. So I stopped reading her stuff!

LifeD1lemma · 18/11/2024 18:22

My favourite is Meabh, and since you’re living in Ireland you should go with that!

we chose Maeve because we are in England and it’s just easier. Beware that it is super popular right now in both U.K. and Ireland. Lots of U.K. people don’t even seem to realise it’s an Irish name…drives me mad!

Thought twin was Charlotte, Phoebe or Vivienne?
