Usually I hate anglicised versions of Irish names but I love Maeve.

(Twin with either Charlotte, Phoebe, or Vivienne)

No, because "Maeioudhbh" isn't a name?

Id go with meabh, love this name.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 19/11/2024 00:18

I think you should choose whichever one you like the best, OP. Does your DH have any preference?

I wouldn't overly worry about the Brazilian side of the family coping with the Irish spelling. I'm English but have Irish family including a Meadhbh and a number of other Irish names where the pronunciation had to be explained to those of us who weren't in the know. Once we had been told, we knew. I do occasionally hesitate about spellings in cards etc, specially accents on the vowels and where to place them, but it isn't a big deal...I just check and then write it out. Worst case scenario might be the odd misspelling here and there, I suppose.

I love Maeve - that spelling.

Maeve and Beatriz are a fantastic combination.

honeyrider · 19/11/2024 01:17

I live in Ireland but prefer Maeve over the other versions.

I'd choose Maeve but I'm not in Ireland. If in Ireland, I'd choose between Maeve and whichever is most common there.

Méabh is the more popular spelling in Ireland now, but when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s Maeve was the spelling that most people used. People are more inclined to use the Irish spelling these days.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/11/2024 09:40

I'd probably go for Maeve in the UK. Very few people go for the original Medb so I think all versions are fine.

Imalittlewitch · 23/11/2024 16:15

My daughter is Maedbh.

My daughter is Maedbh.

That one makes no sense…

Afaik the legitimate options are:
Medb
Meabh
Meadhbh
Maeve

My daughter is Maedbh.

Genius.
Looks amazing written with dots over the d and b instead of that pesky h. I love it.
