Well it is different and wont be too common and the surname is foreign sounding so I approve it!

sounds better than Axel Maynard or Axel Hannaford.....

zippitippitoes · 26/04/2008 13:09

i quite like it

PuppyDogTails · 26/04/2008 13:15

Good for me

betterhalf · 26/04/2008 13:20

Its a good name but I automatically think of Axel Foley(sp?) Beverley Hills Cop.

landj · 26/04/2008 13:23

I think of guns and roses. Axel Rose. "Sweet Child o' mine". Quite apt!

Janni · 26/04/2008 13:24

I don't like it as it just makes me think of a toolbox. Would Alex not work for you?

LyraSilvertongue · 26/04/2008 13:26

Axl Rose.
Axel is slightly different at least.

seeker · 26/04/2008 13:26

Looks like an anagram! Is the last name Scandanavian?

EyeballsintheSky · 26/04/2008 13:27

I like it a lot but, following on from Janni's post, I can see where people, being stupid and not thinking, will spell it Alex. No biggie though. It's cool and unusual without being daft.

MyDingaling · 26/04/2008 13:29

I don't like it personally, but I think it goes well with your surname

Heated · 26/04/2008 14:23

Given what axl rose is an anagram for, I hope not

Only because of your heritage can you get away with it.

LyraSilvertongue · 26/04/2008 14:24

What is axl rose an anagram of?

nikos · 26/04/2008 14:26

Sorry, but I think it's a harsh sounding name. Kind of jars a bit.

seeker · 26/04/2008 14:27

I don't know - it just looks like one. Like that antique expert on the telly called Lars Tharp!

Heated · 26/04/2008 14:27

oral sex

LyraSilvertongue · 26/04/2008 14:29

I never knew that, heated. Thanks. I think.

popsycal · 26/04/2008 14:33

I think of Guns and Roses

Then cars

Heated · 26/04/2008 14:35

But the point is that whatever name you give your child, they come to inhabit the name anyway. So when ppl think of Axel they'll think of your son and not any other connotation. And Axel Bas works.

Umlellala · 26/04/2008 14:47

I like it! a lot.

In fact, would nick it but we have our unusual-name-that-lots-of-people-hate lined up already (Skyler - and no, we don't care if people think it sounds made-up /chavvy/corporate/whatever )

Janni · 26/04/2008 15:24

Heated - that is a fantastic nugget of info. Thanks for that.

MargaretMountford · 26/04/2008 15:31

I thought of Axel Scheffler of the Gruffalo etc ( and a very fine illustrator he is too)

GruffaloSoldier · 26/04/2008 19:00

I love it!!
