I’m expecting a boy in December, who will have an older sister, Willow.

what do people think of the name Blake for a boy? What do you think when you hear the name?

TIA,
Undecided Mum!

I love it. Willow and Blake seem really nice to me.

I do think of Blake Lively though tbh who isn't the nicest female actress. But Blake is traditionally a boy's name anyway I think

MerryMarys · 05/11/2024 18:29

Sounds too much like a surname. Reminds me of Quentin Blake!

saveforthat · 05/11/2024 18:32

I was just watching Back to Black so it reminds me of Amy Winehouse's ex husband.

ginasevern · 05/11/2024 18:32

I like it and it makes a change from the usual suspects. It's far from common, "classy" and can't be shortened. Assuming it flows nicely with your surname, go for it.

I like it.

BUT I'm from the generation who remembers Blakey from on the buses!

Sorry, I think it’s very chav 🙈

Sorry, I think it’s very chav 🙈

Same - I know two babies called Blake and both their mums were typical chavs. Both named their sons Blake and Charlie. Although saying that, my cats called Charlie 😅

Sassysoonwins · 05/11/2024 18:46

I like Blake for a boy. Simple and straighforward. I think almost any name (except perhaps Ptolomy or Quentin) sounds chavvy screamed in certain accents.

My last cat was a Charlie too, loved that thingSmile

It's a real 90s American teen name to me. In my mind, he's a quarterback and should have a girlfriend called Becky, who's a cheerleader.

That's just me though 😂 I think it's a pretty inoffensive name.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/11/2024 18:48

Nicer for a boy than for a girl, in my opinion! I really like Willow and Blake as a pair, too; quite bohemian and artsy-feeling without any pretentious nonsense 🙂

Cosmosgrowinmygarden · 05/11/2024 18:53

Makes me think of a Mills & Boon hero OP. Sorry!

MadamePeriwinkle · 05/11/2024 18:55

I don’t love it as a stand alone name but I do think it pairs really well with Willow, which I like a lot.

HeddaGarbled · 05/11/2024 18:57

I like it.

Ilovemyshed · 05/11/2024 19:03

I'm too old... Blake's Seven 😂

Vax · 05/11/2024 19:05

Gosh. Hard no from me.

I'll av you Blakey Grin. Loved that show.

Alwaystired23 · 05/11/2024 19:14

There's 2 in my sons class, in year 8. I like it.

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/11/2024 19:39

I don’t mind it - slight 90’s downmarket vibes to me, but that’s probably just my own associations!

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/11/2024 19:40

I like it for a boy and it pairs well with Willow.

localnotail · 05/11/2024 20:36

I like it. Makes me think of William Blake.

Love the name Blake. Was on my boys names list but husband said no as he has a cousin called it. It's never going to be a fad name that goes out of fashion

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/11/2024 20:47

Nice name, love it.

DramaAlpaca · 05/11/2024 20:51

I like it. It's not my normal style, but I like it.

Justwantosay · 05/11/2024 20:54

I know 6 Blakes. They're all girls.

Hollythedogwalker · 05/11/2024 20:56

Sorry no, Blake Carrington
