Spell it Lily or she'll be 'Sofia-with-an-F, Lilly-with-2-Ls'
If the surname is Thompson, she'll also be 'Thompson-with-a-P'.

Not keen on Jade, I think 'jaded'

sel2223 · 27/10/2024 13:36

Our surname is 'foreign' as my husband is not British born. The spelling Sofia with 'f' instead of 'ph' is because of how it will be pronounced and written in his first language/ with his family etc.

I take your point about spelling Lilly/Lily with a an extra 'l' although I've always preferred it that way

@sel2223 , the Sofia spelling is gaining popularity and I have nothing against it. Not keen on the Lilly spelling but Lily is nice, and it's a middle name, so it matters less.
There are a lot of Sophias and Sofias around, if that's an issue for you.

I'm not too bothered by popularity, our other first name choice is Leyla..... although I'm not 100% on either of them at the moment.

It's hard trying to find names we both agree on that work in both countries and languages.

DD1 we agreed a name almost instantly but we're really struggling this time.

I'd rather avoid the Rose, Grace, May type names

If i could find something with a similar feel to Jasmine that would be perfect

Jasmine is my daughters middle name 🙂

I can't see why they couldn't share middle names tbh!

Sofia Marta

StressedQueen · 27/10/2024 17:14

I have a Sophia and her middle name is Anne but that is pretty popular.

@Firsttimebabymummy Majority of parents won't want to do that unless the name has specific family heritage. It's nice for each child to have a different name.

I like Sofia Jade

RoamingRoamy · 27/10/2024 22:00

Sofia Jade sounds like my favourite pop star, Samantha Jade. That name is destined for success!!!

milkysmum · 27/10/2024 22:04

Yasmin would sound nice
ie Sofia Yasmin then surname

sel2223 · 28/10/2024 04:23

Sofia Yasmin is lovely but it's basically the same name as Jasmine and that's DD1's middle name.

Maybe a me thing but I don't want them to share a middle name.

Looking for something with a similar vibe but not the same
