What are your thoughts? Is it too feminine?
it is my favourite DH likes but not fully onboard as he thinks DS may get picked on for having a feminine name

I know objectively it’s a boy’s name but it does feel a bit feminine to me, sorry.

RuthW · 26/09/2024 18:22

It's lovely. I love it for a girl too.

DreadingWinter · 26/09/2024 18:22

It's very much a boys' name. Live Frankie for short.

LilBatFaceGal · 26/09/2024 18:22

It's a bit wet

LadyGabriella · 26/09/2024 18:25

I like it.

GiddyRobin · 26/09/2024 18:28

I love Francis. It was on my list of boys names!

Genuinelyenquiring · 26/09/2024 18:30

Love it

Toddlerteaplease · 26/09/2024 18:36

Love it.

rubyslippers · 26/09/2024 18:37

It’s under used at the mo but such a great name IMO

Waterboatlass · 26/09/2024 18:39

I really like it.

It's definitely a masculine name, the feminine version is very similar (Frances) but both equally well established and associated with a particular gender.

I prefer Fran to Frank or Frankie as it keeps the same lovely sounds instead of interrupting it with a hard /k/ which to me detracts from the flow

Abitofhassle · 26/09/2024 18:41

It’s a strong name but you’ll have to be prepared for his friends shortening it to Frank, Fran or calling him Frankie,

all of which are I think are great

Nicebloomers · 26/09/2024 22:26

Love it. Love Frank too.

ghislaine · 26/09/2024 22:30

I really like it. It’s a family name but I would have used it anyway.

HotSource · 26/09/2024 23:16

Good name

DramaAlpaca · 27/09/2024 00:19

I really like it. The trouble is I can't stand any of the inevitable diminutives so for me it's only usable as a middle name.

Atishooo · 27/09/2024 03:18

Always disliked it. To me it’s a wet drippy name, not strong at all.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 27/09/2024 03:20

Good enough for Kurt Cobain - I love it.

  • He has a daughter, Frances but still the sound is pleasant to my ears
FayCarew · 27/09/2024 11:51

I like it and don't think it sounds feminine.

PurpleChrayn · 28/09/2024 08:13

Ugly.

VenusClapTrap · 28/09/2024 16:39

I love it. I know a very nice 14yo Francis. He doesn’t shorten it.

Moveoverdarlin · 28/09/2024 16:41

I know of two, both are women in their late 70s. I just think of it as a really old fashioned woman’s name.

Scutterbug · 28/09/2024 16:42

I’m not a fan.

Holidays78 · 28/09/2024 16:57

Not keen

The feminine is Frances. Male is Francis.

I quite like it because it makes me think of elegant French kings BUT tbh whether he will get picked on is really going to depend on the area you live in and your DS personality/physical build. While Francis has had steady use, it’s not Top 50/100 popular which helps minimise the chance of teasing for a name (more difficult to tease if there are multiple of “name” in a school).

My DBro said they used to tease one of his friends because they found out his middle name was Francis (because they thought it was an old woman’s name)- but this was 20 plus years ago at a rough comp. I suspect in an area where lots of less popular names are used or in a private school, it would really be no big deal today.
