Jacob or Joel

I think I slightly prefer Jacob but it's a lot more popular. So Joel would be a bit different...

Or any other suggestions?

We liked, but I think have ruled out Miles and Sebastian. Also considered Patrick and Jesse.

Jacob is one of my favourite boys names, so that would be my choice. I do like Joel too though, and as you say, it’s much less commonly used, which is nice.

Jacob is a good name, but I prefer Joel because it’s more unusual.

I prefer Jacob but Joel is lovely too and, as you say, much less common. Patrick is a good name but I wouldn't name a boy Jesse, though I know people do.

Joel as they are tons of Jacob’s, it is a v popular name

I like both.
Jacob will probably be Jake.
Joel will get 'Joe?', Joe-ul, Jole and Jo-elle.

Sebastian will be Seb, Patrick Pat or Paddy, and Miles will get Myles.

Personally I hate the name Jacob, (hate all religious names)

I don't like Joel but like the other choices.

Tough choice as I do really like Joel but it seems quite grown up. I can't imagine it on a baby (I know they won't be young forever though). Jacob seems to suit all ages and I do love it, but really dislike Jake which seems inevitable.

I prefer those two the the others on your list though. Personally I think I'd go for Joel. I'm sure if I knew a baby Joel it would suit him. It's just only ever knowing older ones which makes it feel odd on a newborn to me.

There was a character in the 90's in Neighbours called Joel. First time I heard that name, nice name.
Like Noel too - but Oasis has ruined that name.

Joel from Neighbours is exactly who I thought of too, from what I remember he was dreamy with longish hair 😍 (must google him,lol) I like both names OP. Slightly prefer Jacob though.

Jacob feels a touch more classic somehow (maybe because it is more popular) and I like that it’s got an obvious nn option if your DS wants it. It’s definitely the safer choice, although I don’t dislike Joel and it would be nice to see it used more often.

Maybe Jonathan? Uncommon now in the UK compared to other countries but it’s Biblical like many of your other picks, has the same ending as Sebastian and benefits from lots of shortenings so it’s kind of many names in one 🤣 (Jon, Jonny, Jonty , Nate, Nathan) so a safe option too.

Also sticking with my J theme🤣, I’ve always liked timeless Joseph and unusual Jared is quite nice too imo.

I prefer Joel though both are nice.
