Thoughts on Wesley (wes)

Kiwiburgh · 21/09/2024 19:18

I've only just found out I'm pregnant with baby number 3, we have two boys and I'm assuming the 3rd will also be a boy.
I've always liked the name Wesley nn Wes but I can see from old threads some people think it would be cruel, is it really that bad? We live in New Zealand where the names not common but not unusual.

Thanks 😊

i love it

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2024 19:20

Sounds very 70s to me, common when I was in primary school many moons ago so it's a no from me.

ChanelBoucle · 21/09/2024 19:21

Yeah it’s cool, I like it!

Changeyourfuckingcar · 21/09/2024 19:21

I absolutely love it. If it went better with our surname it would be in contention for the baby I’m currently pregnant with!

MistyF · 21/09/2024 19:34

I like Wesley, but like names that are more continental European more. Like August or Roland.

Sethera · 21/09/2024 19:41

No, boring sort of name.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/09/2024 19:41

Don’t like it, sorry. Feels very dated.

cheapskatemum · 21/09/2024 19:45

I like it.

Mumistiredzzzz · 21/09/2024 19:46

I know one Wesley. 50 odd year old man

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 21/09/2024 19:48

I think it awful - one of worst names for a boy I’ve heard over the years. Sorry OP.

ladygindiva · 21/09/2024 19:51

I know a little Wes, he's about six. I think it's great, different without being too out there, classic without being boring.

SanMarzano · 21/09/2024 19:55

I think Methodism and the Princess Bride (although that’s Westley)

RockyRogue1001 · 21/09/2024 20:29

Angel!

shoopshoopdedoo · 21/09/2024 21:01

I quite like it!

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 21/09/2024 21:03

I like Wesley!

Zimunya · 21/09/2024 21:04

Congratulations, OP! Are you planning on using the English (Wez-Lee) or American (Wess -Lee) pronunciation?

Pyjamatimenow · 21/09/2024 21:04

In my head it’s too close to weasel. It’s a hideous name.

muffledvoice · 21/09/2024 21:13

Knowing three with that name one born in the 80s, one in the 90s and the final born in the 2010s

Snowdropsarelovely · 21/09/2024 21:21

Personally I'm not keen, I feel like it's an old man name

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 21/09/2024 21:34

Not an ugly name, but people might assume a religious connection - would you be OK with that?

Moreteaandchocolate · 21/09/2024 21:41

I think it’s more popular / less dated in the US than the UK - so maybe it’s got cooler connotations in New Zealand too? Objectively it sounds good, just dated to me in the UK.

AmeliaEarache · 21/09/2024 21:45

I like it with a T, like the Dread Pirate Westley. I never could resist a man who says As You Wish.

You know that having 2 boys doesn’t mean this one will be, right? It’s like a coin toss, it has no memory of what went before, it’s still 50:50.

yousexybugger · 21/09/2024 21:47

It's a perfectly useable name but I don't think likely to be a universal crowd pleaser so if you like it, just go for it. Sorry but personally can't see the appeal in it.

I wouldn't feel this way about say, Calvin/ Reformation, maybe because it's more used but I would think 'Methodism'.

LucyEleanorModeratz · 21/09/2024 21:58

Utterly awful, IMO. But it’s your baby and so yours is the only opinion that matters 😊

Normallynumb · 21/09/2024 22:04

Yes, I like Wesley
I have 3 boys, so it's likely a boy!
