We don't know if we're having a boy or a girl but I love this name and think it suits both. Realistically though the singer has dominated this name hasn't she? Would this be strange to use this name?

I also like Rafe for a boy and DH likes Rayne for a girl but we don't like either's and Raye is the only one we agree with.

Yep, sorry, exactly like Raye again.

🤔

I read your thread and instantly thought of Ray J (from Kim's sex tape) but that's probably because the Kardashian's are on Tv.

I quite like it … I don’t think it’s an embarrassing name to lumber a child with. I quite like girls who have boys names ….. there used to be a model called James and I quite like that. This is quite a conservative site though and unless you choose something quite classic you won’t ever get a consensus.

I dunno who the singer is, but I do think Raye looks better than Rae. I always think 'ae' names look unfinished (not that they don't sound nice, I'm not name bashing)

Never heard of a singer called Raye
Also, people wouldn't automatically assume an Adele was named after the singer so why would they associate it with a very low key singer that most of us don't know?

Dolliesdisasterousdayout · 02/09/2024 18:27

I love the singer Raye but as a name why not good old fashioned Ray?

Your Little Ray of Sunshine.

I like Raye and Rae for a girl .. and Ray for a boy.

Consider..
Ray
Raymond
Rafael - Raf, Raffa
Raphael

Rachael - Rae
Rachel - Rae, Shelley
Rae
Raye
Raphaela

I thought of the Australian breakdancer!

Ha ha ha .. Raygun!

Awful. Trendy but not in a good way, already dated. Rae translates to female sheep - not exactly complimentary for your DD!

The name Rachel has the same meaning!

sel2223 · 03/09/2024 08:18

Yes Raygun!! 🤣 my thoughts too..... I've never heard of a singer called Raye

Honestly though, it sounds a bit 'wishy washy' to be a first name (in my opinion).
I think of it as either a nickname for Raymond, Rachel etc, or as a 'fill in' middle name like Mae or Rose - Lily Rae, Ivy Rae, Sophia Rae etc

I do happen to prefer the spelling Raye

theduchessofspork · 03/09/2024 09:12

It’s faddy and will date badly

You could go retro and call a boy Raymond nn Ray - although I much prefer Rafe - maybe just use Rafe as a full name nn Ray

For a girl Rachel or Freya nn Ray

Raymond or Rachel with it as a nickname - you can then switch if you dislike it in the future

This is what I’d do.
