Anna or Sadie

Apologies for yet another post, I'm due in two days and baby names are all I can think of right now. The replies iv had so far have been really helpful so thank you.

I already have a son called James
Our surname is Green, the Anne of green gables thing doesn't bother me, I'd never heard of it until a few days ago, and I believe it's not a bad association anyhow.

I love the fact Sadie is a little different, not too popular plus easy to pronounce and spell.

I love how equally classic Anna is to James, I'm yet to meet a little Anna but know many adults Anna's which makes me wonder if Anna and James are a little boring to together, however again I like the fact it's easy to pronounce and spell.

What are your thoughts?

I love James and Anna. Not boring, but simple and classic.

With name questions I always think, which name would I prefer to be called, and here Anna is a clear winner over Sadie.

Rockmehardplace · 27/08/2024 00:09

I love both, I would have called DS Sadie but Anna is classically gorgeous.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 27/08/2024 00:41

Not Sadie .

Peachy2005 · 27/08/2024 01:24

Definitely not Sadie, it’s a very cold cruel-sounding name - maybe just because it’s so close to sadist. Sorry to any Sadies, just my opinion.

OliviaFlaversham · 27/08/2024 01:27

Anna is lovely. I have same reservations as pps re Sadie.

Sweetteaplease · 27/08/2024 01:34

Sadie. Anna is so bla

Prriorayingly · 27/08/2024 01:41

Anna is so classy. ❤️

Firsttimebabymummy · 27/08/2024 08:28

Anna

Fits perfectly with James too

BlastedPimples · 27/08/2024 13:36

Sadie

Anna is nice but v commonly used.

Redhairandhottubs · 27/08/2024 13:41

Anna makes me think so someone who is nice, placid and easy going, but a little dull. Sadie's cool and a bit of a rebel. They're very different names.

MiddleAgedDread · 27/08/2024 14:37

I love Anna but I don't like it with Green :( The words sort of merge together into one abrupt sound.

Theoldwoman · 27/08/2024 14:39

One hundred percent, ANNA!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/08/2024 15:13

Sadie Anne flows beautifully and would give you the best of both worlds! Congratulations 🎉

sel2223 · 27/08/2024 15:54

You can't go wrong with either of those names OP

Anna Green
Sadie Green

Both beautiful name and go really well with James

Congratulations

Hoolihan · 27/08/2024 15:57

Love the name Anna. So pretty. Sadie makes me think of the word sadist.

Coconutter24 · 27/08/2024 16:14

Anna, it also goes well with James. I do like the name Sadie but it reminds me of a dogs name

Enko · 27/08/2024 16:15

Love Sadie. Anna is dull imo

zingally · 27/08/2024 17:07

Speaking as a primary school teacher, girls names ending in A or the /a/ sound are ten a penny at the moment. And although Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful character, she's a bit... dated and silly. That being said, the likelihood of any of her peers making the link is slim to none.
I'd go for Sadie personally, just to break up the sea of A names.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/08/2024 17:11

Sadie

hellowembley · 27/08/2024 17:14

Sadie is such a lovely name. I don’t think normal people would associate it with sadist!

KimFan · 27/08/2024 17:18

Sadie. Anna is quite boring, dated and a little bit twee. Sadie and James sounds fab!

shoopshoopdedoo · 27/08/2024 17:27

If the Anne of Green Gables thing doesn’t bother you, I’d definitely pick Anna over Sadie. It’s lovely with James, too.

I’m wondering if after all your threads, you’ll actually meet her and think “oh, she looks like a Pauline” or something, and put all your options in the bin 😂 - I hope we find out what you choose!

MirandaBlu · 27/08/2024 17:34

Anna, although I do think it blends in a. little with Green (all those Ns!) I might be tempted in your place with Annabel, Annika, Annalise, etc. with Anna for every day.

Sadie is OK as a pet name for Sarah, but don't love it as a stand-alone.

hereismydog · 27/08/2024 17:36

Anna.

All the Sadies I’ve met (about 5 in total) have been golden retrievers!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 27/08/2024 17:37

Both are nice.

Sadie has the edge for me. It's cool and retro.
