Antonia
Ariadne (although it would normally be Ariadna in Spanish, the pronunciation still works)
Diana (slight pronunciation differences)
Dora
Flora
Iris (slight pronunciation differences)
Lena
Liliana
Tatiana
Valentina

One of my favourites is Daphne, which I think works well in terms of pronunciation, but you run into spelling differences (Dafne in Spanish, probably Dafni in Greek, although not such a big deal as the alphabet is different).

Maria, Anna and Sophia/Sofia were the first 3 that came to my mind, which I see have also been suggested by lots of others. Elena is a good shout too.

Usually the classic names travel the best across different cultures.

WiganPie · 12/08/2024 12:12

Biblical names and names that are phonetic.

Maria, Sara, Lola, Rita etc should work.

Spanishgreekenglishfamily · 12/08/2024 13:08

@WiganPie I really like Lola but my family are sticklers for name meanings and I wouldn't want her to have to associate with the meaning for the rest of her life.

Really like Sofia but it's just so popular! Maybe too popular.

I'm quite drawn to Aurora and Aurelia. But what if they can't pronounce R's for Aurora! And Aurelia doesn't have a clear pronunciation. It can be Au-ree-lia or Au-ray-lia

Lara

WiganPie · 12/08/2024 18:32

@Spanishgreekenglishfamily , Aurora would be Ow-rora in Spanish.

MichaelAndEagle · 12/08/2024 19:40

Laura, making a come back. I know it is pronounced Low (to rhyme with cow) ra in Spain which is nice. Don't know about Greece.

rainingsnoring · 12/08/2024 20:01

All lovely suggestions @PurpleBrocadePeacock

WiganPie · 12/08/2024 20:13

Lydia, Zara, Emma

Spanishgreekenglishfamily · 12/08/2024 20:19

@WiganPie unfortunately can't use Zara or Emma as already used in the family.

Elena/Eleni
Sofia
Ana

Spanishgreekenglishfamily · 12/08/2024 20:24

@SerenityNowInsanityLater Serafina is beautiful.
@MirandaBlu Not really a fan of any of those. All a bit long, prefer shorter names.
@PurpleBrocadePeacock like Sofia but it's very popular. Elena I'm not keen on pronunciation. Anna is very plain. Cannot use Maia due to surname and not able to use Sara or Maria. The others are too long, prefer shorter names. Although Eva is very pretty but read it's pronounced like Ava in Greece and Spain?
@camellia15 I like Sofia, Lucia and Thalia.

Any others?
