Nora works in English and Spanish.
Maria, Martina, Marina.
Dorothea, or just Thea.
Lia, Julia/Iulia (but pronunciation would be very different).
Georgia (Ditto)
Nia?
Anastasia, Anna (I used to know a Greek/English Anna, it would be Ana in Spanish but that probably doesn't matter)
Iris, Alexandria, Alexandra, Martha/Marta, Sara, Victoria.

Sofia was my first suggestion.

Mostly because ds in Spanish;English and it's the name we had for a girl!

Elena
Maria

Are next obvious choices imo!

But would Elianna (el ee are ar na) work for these 3?

I can see it work for Spanish but not sure about Greek?

itsgettingweird · 13/08/2024 20:24

Not sure why it has two are sounds in the pronounciation - I only typed 1 🤦‍♀️😂

TowellingLife · 13/08/2024 20:29

My niece - Greek Dad, Spanish Mum, is Artemis. Obviously works slightly better in Greece but the Spanish side pronounce it in a lovely way (from Valencia and pronounce the s, rather than as a "th").

@itsgettingweird I really like Sofia it's short and sweet but worry about how popular it is in the UK.
Eliana is also nice, it does work in Greek too but being 4 syllables I worry about shortenings. Prefer shorter names.

Do also like Eden but not sure if it works in Spanish/Greek?

Eliana is also nice, it does work in Greek too but being 4 syllables I worry about shortenings. I don't like it or Elianna and they will get Ellie-ar-na in the UK and be shortened to Ellie.

Eden will be more like Ed-enn in Spain and Greece.

My niece is Miranda-needs to work, and does, in England, Spain and Italy. Not sure if that helps!

Louria · 13/08/2024 21:57

Eva (Ayva)

Sara

Nouria

Christina

Ahhhh this is such hard work. Literally don't love anything. I loved all my boys names. That's what makes the girl name so hard. So much guilt. I like Rose, Matilda, Harper, Juliet, Summer, Eloise, Seren, Sofia and Lucia. Eclectic mix I know. But I can't seem to settle on anything.

What do you mean works ? Your name is your name wherever you go pick a name you like. That's all

localnotail · 13/08/2024 23:16

Thalia, Maria, Elena, Irena

Spanishgreekenglishfamily · 13/08/2024 23:21

@ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot your message makes no sense. I didn't say anything about works?
If only it was as simple as just pick a name 🙄

Margherita

SheilaFentiman · 13/08/2024 23:54

Is it really important to you that it’s pronounced the same? Because that’s probably even more tricky with short names like Eva.

Meadowwild · 13/08/2024 23:57

Sofia
Anna
Maria
Luisa
Clara
Maia/Maya
Elena
Elisa
Lena

Also Mia, Mila, Maya, Layla, Sienna, Julietta, Gabriella, Anna, Rosa,

@ineedtogwtoutbeforeitatoohot , some names don't work in different countries. You could name your baby a perfectly normal name in the UK, only to find that it's like calling a child Fanny or Dick in your in-laws' country.

Some names don't work because the pronunciation doesn't work in the other language, or it would mean correcting people a lot about the spelling or pronunciation.
