Hi!
What do you think of the name Kasper for a little boy?

And, what nationality might you assume he/his parents might be?
Does it evoke any particular country/region in your mind? Thankyou!

Not keen personally.

I believe it is a Danish/Scandi name but the only ones I have met have British parents so I wouldn't make any assumptions.

MrsSkylerWhite · 09/08/2024 20:31

It’s a lovely name. We’ve known three over the years. English, Russian and Scottish families (Scottish family spelled it Casper).

MapleTreeValley · 09/08/2024 20:31

Kasper with a K would make me think of Russia / eastern Europe. I have no idea if that's correct btw - it's just what comes to my mind.

Koko83 · 09/08/2024 20:32

Love it.
I wouldn’t make any assumptions of where it’s from but I come from a big mixed family and friends from all over so it’s not something I ever really think about

soundsys · 09/08/2024 20:32

I like it! (I may be biased) That spelling I'd think Scandinavian, Kacper I'd think was Polish, Caspar or Casper I'd think from the UK.

soundsys · 09/08/2024 20:33

The Kasper I know is Norwegian

BCBird · 09/08/2024 20:34

Would presume of Polish descent

Deipara · 09/08/2024 20:34

I would imagine Russain

Deipara · 09/08/2024 20:35

Russian even

Sirzy · 09/08/2024 20:35

I like and wouldn’t make an assumptions either.

it’s different without being too different

DutchCowgirl · 09/08/2024 20:35

Kasper is also a very Dutch name

MirandaBlu · 09/08/2024 20:39

From that spelling I would assume Finnish, Scandinavian of some kind, or Dutch.

StripedPiggy · 09/08/2024 20:42

The only Kasper I can think of is Danish. Kasper Schmeichel, the goalkeeper who played for Leicester City for many years.

Awrite · 09/08/2024 20:43

Kasper Schmeichel is a Danish goalkeeper. Plays for Celtic and the Danish national team.

Peter's son.

Really cool.

maaama · 09/08/2024 20:46

I know 2 a kasper who is Scottish and a kacper who is polish

MossGrowsFat · 09/08/2024 20:47

The friendly ghost if spelt Casper. But I guess you have to be of a certain age. Casper the ghost when he turned back into a boy was my first ever crush.

Prefer it with a C but it is a lovely name.

GladOliveUser · 09/08/2024 20:55

I don't like it because I think of the movie
I would assume he is Eastern European or Dutch or South African

turkeyboots · 09/08/2024 21:08

The Kasper I know is of Croatian extraction

localnotail · 09/08/2024 21:12

Kasper is definitely not Russian, Russians would think its a foreign, possibly German name.

Kasper the Friendly Ghost? Or was it Casper - which is, basically, the same?

Mumofteenandtween · 09/08/2024 21:15

My first thought was German with that spelling. (Casper would make me think British.) I have German family though so I might be biased.

FayCarew · 09/08/2024 21:23

Kasper - German or Danish
Kacper - Polish

Firsttimebabymummy · 09/08/2024 21:24

It's ok- I think there's plenty of much nicer names.

I wouldn't make any assumptions of where from

YerMaRubsPlumsAtTheBackOfAldi · 09/08/2024 21:25

I'd think you were a football fan or Danish (or both)

BoleynMemories13 · 09/08/2024 21:37

soundsys · 09/08/2024 20:32

I like it! (I may be biased) That spelling I'd think Scandinavian, Kacper I'd think was Polish, Caspar or Casper I'd think from the UK.

Exactly what I was going to say about each different spelling!

It's a lovely name.

FayCarew · 09/08/2024 21:37

@localnotail , the ghost was Casper. I prefer the Caspar spelling.
