Need the most unusual/out there boys names you can think of

Baby due Jan 2025. Already have a girl's name picked - don't want to say what as it's too outing if anyone knows me on here, it's an unusual rarely used name but lovely and everyone we've told really likes it and we are very happy with it.

We can't agree on a boy's name at all. I already have a DS (previous partner) with quite an unusual name but still in the top 100 but my DH definitely likes more "out there" names!
Give me your favourite unique boy names for inspiration please! We've looked at thousands of names on lists and just can't find one we like for a boy whatsoever. I know we have plenty of time (and might not even have a boy) but with my son I had his name picked before I was ever even pregnant so I'm struggling not knowing!

I know a boy called Fox after Fox Mulder.

I loved Anakin but DH vetoed it. Obi could work too!

Phinneas is good as is Leviticus and Almanzo.

Interested to hear what girl’s name have you chosen?

Draconis · 08/08/2024 17:25

Dante

OP If Lazarus - mentioned in a previous post of yours - is the name that your DH likes, then just make sure he knows and understands the Bible story. (He may of course know it already- don't wish to suggest otherwise.) Just saying this because being named after someone raised from the dead is quite a bit for many/most people to cope with.

As a collection of sounds, Lazarus quite pleasant. On the other hand, it is also the name of a famous Parisian railway station, St Lazare. So perhaps Pancras, to match?

Not so much fun, Lazar House was the name given for centuries to a house in an isolated area where people such as leprosy and other incurable infectious diseases were sent to keep them out of contact with the rest of the population until they died (often rather horribly).

Don't do it to your son. Just because you want an out there name, remember it may lead to him having a lifetime of having to spell it out, and risk ridicule at school. It's not all about you.

CantSleepSweet · 08/08/2024 17:39

I have to say, i don't think Lazarus is particularly extreme - I wouldn't hear a child called it and think the parents had lost the plot. It can also be shortened to Russ or even Larry, so there are options. I think i like it!

My DH desperately wanted D'artagnon which I vetoed as just could not imagine that being shouted at a doctors etc.

timoteigirl · 08/08/2024 17:40

Tate Shadrack Valentine Lazarus Tycho Malachi Ossian Fraser Albin Bryce

Cobalt Jett Flint Granite Clay

Hurricane Nemo Reef Loch Undine

Hawk Samhain

Ranger Cedar Arrow Cobb

Fox already suggested but what about Torben or Wolf or Wolfie

A bit hard without understanding in what way it should be unusual, meaning, rare name etc.

Loads of school age Pauls and Simons (though not Clives 🤣) in Germany, so the other cultures/ countries has dad names covered to an extent too!

You could find "Out there" names by going back 1000 + years and having a look at the names of monarchs and anyone else documented from then...

Ethelred? (The unready 😜 maybe not ...)

There was once a pope Lucifer, it wasn't always a taboo name (I guess because Lucifer was once an archangel in the story?)

I know a boy called Ethelred. Called Red most of the time. Love it.

Ignatius (Iggy for short)
Boaz
Aneurin (rarely heard these days)

UrsulaBelle · 08/08/2024 17:57

Lysander has a similar feel to Lazarus? Or Demetrius from the same play?

I know a very cool Zephyr, he’s mixed race and it really suits him.

Asher, Ephron, Jude?

Loving the fact the numerous Dereks and Clives etc I went to school with now officially possess Old Man names and in only 60 odd years!😀In that vein I contribute Dean and Darren. Only don't.

That's why I like the name Fox!

I knew someone years ago with a son called Anakin

I love the name Magnus, Miss Honey's dad is called Magnus in Matilda so I've always thought it was a great name since I was young.

That's true - there are a few "normal" things it could be shortened to or changed to if he decided when he was older. I do like the name I just wasn't sure if it was too much.

I have to agree I can't imagine D'artagnon in an everyday setting although it is a fantastic name!
