Need the most unusual/out there boys names you can think of

Baby due Jan 2025. Already have a girl's name picked - don't want to say what as it's too outing if anyone knows me on here, it's an unusual rarely used name but lovely and everyone we've told really likes it and we are very happy with it.

We can't agree on a boy's name at all. I already have a DS (previous partner) with quite an unusual name but still in the top 100 but my DH definitely likes more "out there" names!
Give me your favourite unique boy names for inspiration please! We've looked at thousands of names on lists and just can't find one we like for a boy whatsoever. I know we have plenty of time (and might not even have a boy) but with my son I had his name picked before I was ever even pregnant so I'm struggling not knowing!

Do you have a super unusual 'out there" name? Just wondering if you have experience of how difficult it can be to live life with a weird name. The constant comments, misspellings, jokes. The awkward moment where you have to go into a room and introduce yourself as xx and see people's faces..

I don't sadly I have quite a common boring name and always wanted a really unusual name

Lars and Valentine are really common where I live - not UK though. Valentine is "high likelihood of two in the same school class" common right through from toddlers to late teens.

I do agree with the poster pointing out that actually having a genuinely "out there" name can be something your offspring won't thank you for - it depends both on the name and even more on the personality of the child and adult they become. Giving a child an out there name doesn't automatically mean they grow into the kund of person who can carry it off confidently, especially once puberty hits (a three year old who happily tells the mummy and daddy she or he worships and adores that she or he loves being called Pixie or Rambo might not feel the same at 13 or 15 ...).

This is exactly my dilemma, I don't want our child to hate us and wish they had a different name, but equally all the names we do like are quite (very) "out there" and I don't want to settle for a name I don't love

In two different school classes I knew a Paxton and a Tudor.
Have never come across any others.

You could quite easily change your own name by deed poll rather than living out your own missed opportunity through your children.

I have a moderately unusual name. I've only ever met a couple of people with my name . It's an absolute pain in the arse quite frankly. I've been the butt of jokes- none original. Had people think its a different name entirely. Had it spelt incorrectly. At school everyone knew exactly who it was if i did something stupid or embarrassing. And I could never get stuff in gift shops with my name on ( tiny violin)

Please think about your child going through life with their super unusual name and what you are inflicting on them.

Perhaps ensure that the name has a more conventional short form they can choose to use if they wish (and don't fight them on using it if it's their choice).

TurqoiseJasper · 08/08/2024 16:15

Xander.(Zarnder) I love that, a nod to Alexander

@Whale80ne I could change my own name by deed poll however I'm an adult, everyone knows me by my current name and I'd have to change absolutely everything in my name which would be a complete hassle. I'm not living out my "missed opportunity" through my children at all - I want to give my children nice unique names and all the names I like are incredibly unusual so I was looking for other suggestions to see if there's anything I like there that wouldn't be as extreme!
The same way some people would never call their child some of the names on my list, I can't imagine anything worse than naming my child something like Archie or Oliver or Charlie or Jack.
There's just no personality in them whatsoever and I have a name where there were about 4 of us in class in school with the same name and I always hated that.

Phospherion
Roubelliot
Anglemex
Cyp
Lumeniscus
Tubic
Archen
Xeriphen
Gryphad

Good brief. Shall I keep going or have you picked one? I think I've found my new calling as a name Inventor

Shitlord · 08/08/2024 16:19

If those aren't to your taste, my choice would be Lysander if you wanted unusual but not unfamiliar

namedilemma24 · 08/08/2024 16:20

@Whale80ne this is what I'm thinking, choose an unusual name that has a more conventional nickname

I also met a Thaddeus once, that worked well in a real life, normal job setting

namedilemma24 · 08/08/2024 16:22

@Bigearringsbigsmile to be fair even though my name is common people still always spell it wrong or shorten it to something I don't like and don't go by. So that same problem can be encountered with names that aren't very unusual at all. And I'm very wary of picking anything that has any negative connotations or sounds like anything dodgy (or initials of full names that could stand for something etc)

My child could end up loving their name (which I hope they would) so I wouldn't see it as "inflicting" anything on them

How far gone are you?
Maybe spend the rest of your pregnancy calling yourself or your dh could call himself the name you choose. Go into rooms full of strangers and introduce yourself.
