  1. Thoughts on Daphne?
  2. Daphne or Delphine?
OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Malahide · 30/07/2024 23:48

Please don’t name your poor child dolphin.

SOxon · 30/07/2024 23:49

“ Daphne - you’re leading again ! “

Ladyandherspaniel · 30/07/2024 23:50

Neither!!
Awful :( poor child.

JC03745 · 30/07/2024 23:55

Maybe Daphne is due a come back at some point like other names of that era.
For me, I associate it with a chain smoking woman in her 70's/80's. I also don't like the sound- Daph, like Daffy Duck.

Not a fan at all, but if you like it, that is all that matters.

DramaAlpaca · 31/07/2024 01:06

Absolutely gorgeous names, both of them.

I'd choose Daphne. I just adore it.

In reality I'd never have got either of them past DH, and we had boys anyway.

Colinthecaterpillarstrikesagain · 31/07/2024 01:32

Daphne is better but not by much. I automatically think of Scooby Doo or Frasier when I hear the name.

I know two Daphnes. One in her 40s and one in her early 50s. I think there is a good reason why the name isn't heard much anymore.

VeryQuaintIrene · 31/07/2024 01:37

I like Daphne but it does sound a bit old-fashioned. Maybe due a revival, though?

MistyHazelFox · 31/07/2024 01:46

I like both name and have voted Delphine. Daphne is due comeback.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 31/07/2024 03:17

Unusual. I like it.

(As a teacher, I am judgey about names. I think I’d like to have a Daphne in my class. She sounds kind and clever).

mathanxiety · 31/07/2024 03:43

Daphne is gorgeous.

PurpleReindeer2 · 31/07/2024 04:46

Sorry OP but I think it is hideous.

Timeisnevertimeatall · 31/07/2024 04:48

I know a toddler Daphne and have really warmed to the name, it really suits her.

ru53 · 31/07/2024 04:49

Love them both but Daphne edges it for me.

kitchendiscotime · 31/07/2024 05:57

I love it. I'd go for Daphne over Delphine but they're both beautiful names. Daphne is due a comeback!

Firsttimebabymummy · 31/07/2024 07:16

Daphne if I had to choose.

Vettrianofan · 31/07/2024 07:17

Scooby Doo. Yes!

MagicianMoth · 31/07/2024 07:35

I love Daphne and don’t think of Scooby Doo at all - first thought is the Malory Towers character, or was it St Clare’s? Second thought the flower

eyebagsfordays · 31/07/2024 07:37

I have a little Daphne and we get compliments on her name all the time ❤️

herebehippos · 31/07/2024 07:49

I know a teenage daphne who is both kind and clever. Her name is complimented constantly.

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/07/2024 08:21

I love Daphne! Definitely making a comeback!

Commonsense22 · 31/07/2024 09:11

Both are beautiful names. Unfortunately Delphine has the pepper pug association at the moment.

Lovely choices.

Polarnight · 31/07/2024 09:13

I don't like either.

SnapdragonToadflax · 31/07/2024 09:16

Daphne is a very 80s name to me, in my mind I see a woman with big hair and high heels. Definitely not a baby name! Wasn't that the name of the woman in Neighbours who gave birth with her tights on? 😂

Delphine is very pretty, and doesn't sound anything like dolphin 🙄

PiggieWig · 31/07/2024 09:19

I think of Des and Daphne from Neighbours, but that probably shows I’m too old to be naming babies.

toastofthetown · 31/07/2024 09:35

Daphne is in Bridgeton I believe, and it's increasing in popularity. It's broken the top 200 now and I think will keep rising. It fits in well with current baby names, and wouldn't be surprised if it cracks the top hundred in a couple of years. I feel I hear it all the time on name forums.
