Felix

What do you think of the name Felix? Too popular? Will it date? I've always been very resistant to top hundred names, but my husband hates most of my name choices, so Felix is on the table. I know that popular names are much less popular (only 46% of boys had a top hundred name in 2022 vs 73% in 1996), and it's only 733 boys, which across all of England and Wales feels like nothing.

Love it. I know 2 Felixs in their 20s but no younger ones.

Tel12 · 28/07/2024 21:57

I had a cat called Felix.

toastofthetown · 28/07/2024 22:03

The cat association really doesn't bother me. It's in the top hundred so fairly mainstream.

My Felix is in his 40's and hugely popular. 🥰

Santasbigredbobblehat · 28/07/2024 22:03

The cat comments are silly. It’s a great name. I know two aged 9-11.

OMGsamesame · 28/07/2024 22:05

I like it

I love it.

My son has a friend named Felix (21), but he’s the only one I know. It’s a cool name that can’t be shortened.

SunnieShine · 28/07/2024 22:23

I like it.

MirandaBlu · 28/07/2024 22:28

I like it. There's a pattern of "foreign-language-origin names" becoming suddenly crazy popular in Anglophone countries where they were never widely used - for example Deborah, Gemma, Karen, Kristin - and then falling out of favour and getting the reputation of being "dated" in the UK, etc. even as they are still "normal" in their home country or countries. I can't predict whether Felix will go this way or not, but despite the hot X I don't think it's that popular.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 28/07/2024 22:31

I wanted this name in 1999 for my son lol my now ex husband said no way as it's a cats name and we called him Benjamin instead which I also love but the name Felix will always have a special place in my heart. Completely unrelated I know but I lost Ben in an accident 2 years ago aged 22 and seeing this thread pop up made me feel happy and emotional lol (I'm weird) I wish you all the best with your precious baby boy whatever you decide to call him and if I could go back I would have picked Felix over anything xx

Whousestypewritersanyway · 28/07/2024 22:35

Love it. Have always loved it. Go for it.

Violet17 · 28/07/2024 22:40

It is okay

SanMarzano · 28/07/2024 22:41

Love it, know a few aged between 10 to 40s. It’s been popular in Europe for years (including countries where the cat food brand is available) and it has such a nice meaning.

@Ihopeithinkiknow sorry for your loss Flowers

Belladone · 28/07/2024 22:41

I don’t dislike it, can’t say as I know anyone called it, if you like it then that’s what’s important. As for the cat comments that silly, we had a dog called trudy but I went to school with a trudy too, so names work both ways

CriticalThinker · 28/07/2024 23:00

The cat thing is really really old. I wouldn’t even think about it.

I know 3 boys called felix age 6 - 8. It’s a lovely name.

DramaAlpaca · 28/07/2024 23:15

I like the meaning but I really can't warm to the name. It's not so much 'cat' to me as 'cat food'. And that's not good.

MumChp · 28/07/2024 23:17

Cat. Sorry.

whiteboardking · 28/07/2024 23:48

I don't mind it. But it's a cat food. The one I know is seriously nerdy academic and boring too 😆

CakeRattleandRoll · 29/07/2024 01:09

Love it.

Calliopespa · 29/07/2024 01:13

Nice meaning: happy.

But sorry it does always make me think 🐱. “Miaou.” There’s too many of us saying that to deny its a thing.

TheHuntSyndicate · 29/07/2024 01:23

It's a lovely name.

Starseeking · 29/07/2024 01:39

I like the name Felix. There's a couple of boys with this name friendly with my DC, and it sounds nice when you say it.
