I have heard these, which would you think when you read it?

  1. Kay-us
  2. Kye-us
  3. Keys
  4. Something else?

Kye-us. First part rhyming with eye.

Keys. He could have a brother called Gonville.

Twins. Who grow up to be hired assassins.

2AND2GC · 08/07/2024 22:36

'Keys'

TrustPenguins · 08/07/2024 22:37

Kay-us

Thanks, the college is definitely Keys but from what I've read online the name isn't

@idontknow54789 why are you asking? Surely you don't want to saddle a child with this name??

thinkfast · 08/07/2024 22:38

Ky (to rhyme with sky)
Us (to rhyme with wuss)
As in Caius Julius Caesar

Normallynumb · 08/07/2024 22:40

Ky us ( lovely name)

WelshWannabe · 08/07/2024 22:40

My ds's best friend in kindy/school was Caius, pronounced Kai-uss.

TheaBrandt · 08/07/2024 22:44

Keys but have links with college so seems very weird to use that as a name.

AhNowTed · 08/07/2024 22:48

It's Roman.

So Kye-us.

Rhymes with eye-us.

kitsuneghost · 08/07/2024 22:51

Cai to rhyme with guy - us

MumblesParty · 08/07/2024 22:51

I’m not sure, but I would certainly feel sorry for the poor child.

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 08/07/2024 22:55

I've never heard this name and thought 'K(eye)-uss' on reading it, so on that note I'll go with your option 2.

God I'm shit at trying to spell phonetically 🤣. I'm 43 though so I hope that has some relevance.

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 08/07/2024 22:56

Also, if it is pronounced that way, I like it.

Do you think Julius Caesar's first name was pronounced 'keys'?

Atethehalloweenchocs · 08/07/2024 22:58

2

PardonSmardon · 08/07/2024 23:04

I knew a one pronounced number 2

EnidH00pes · 09/07/2024 06:32

As a former Caian I would never be able to see it as anything others than keys (due to the doc's Hyacinth Bucket like behaviour)

But appreciate others wouldn't have this so... K- eye- uss

CormorantStrikesBack · 09/07/2024 06:40

I’d say Keys but it’s dds second choice of college which may be influencing me 😁

JohnnyAndTheDead · 09/07/2024 06:44

The lesson here is don't name your kid something people don't know how to pronounce. It'll be annoying for them their whole life

TheaBrandt · 09/07/2024 08:17

Well seeing as I don’t actually live in the Roman Empire how Caesar pronounced it wouldn’t spring to mind no 🙄 Strong links to many Caians so it’s keys to me. Quite a silly choice however pronounced.

YellowAsteroid · 09/07/2024 08:19

Number 1 is just wrong.

number 2 is the pronunciation based on the original Biblical name

Number 3 is the name of a Cambridge college. It’s a bit like the Magdalen Colleges at both Ox and Cantab - pronounced “Maudlin” for those colleges . But pronounced Mag-da-len as a given name.

Keys. He could have a brother called Gonville.
