Narrowing Down My Eclectic Mix....

SummerRose999 · 06/07/2024 10:27

Brothers Noah and Jacob. Girls names are impossible....
Seem to have an eclectic mix going on. Please help me narrow down!

Eden (Biblical to continue theme)
Shiloh (biblical to go with boys names, worried too out there or unisex)
Jemima (biblical to go with boys names but dislike Jem, and worry it's a bit upper class).
Matilda (loved since boys, but dislike shortenings. A few friends have used this name).
Madison (similar to Matilda but less popular. Really like this)
Arabella (Always disliked longer name but seen a lot on social media recently and really starting to love the sound).
Athena (warrior, strong, but not sure if it's a bit out there compared to boys names).
Seren (love that it means Star, but I'm not Welsh. Would it be a bit odd?)

Thank you! I just want to love the name as much as I love my boys names.

Love Shiloh, Eden and Athena

rainbowstardrops · 06/07/2024 10:30

I absolutely love Eden! Matilda is quite nice but I like the nn Tilly. Seren is nice too.

PiggieWig · 06/07/2024 10:32

Seren’s my favourite. I don’t think it matters that you aren’t Welsh. However Stella would also be an option.

Eden is also lovely. I’m not keen on the others.

Rondel · 06/07/2024 10:36

I only like Seren from your list. I think Shiloh and Eden are ‘trendy’ in a bad way, and Jemima to me is more ‘Puddleduck’ than Biblical, while Madison says ‘dimwitted US cheerleader with vocal fry’ to me and Arabella is too frilly.

What about plainer Biblical names, the female equivalents of Noah and Jacob? Judith, Deborah, Naomi, Tabitha, Esther, Eve, Susannah, Ada, Hannah, Mara, Joanna, Martha, Rachel, Zillah ?

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/07/2024 10:43

I think Eden, Seren, Jemima, Athena and Madison are all nice choices from what you’ve said.

Shiloh would be a bit “out there” / unisex for my personal taste).

Matilda probably fits best with your boys names, but I would avoid if you dislike the shortenings as it’s tricky to control that by secondary school age.

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2024 10:52

Eden - too trendy, too vowelly. I don't like it
Shiloh - I don't like it.
Jemima - love it.
Matilda - like it
Madison - dreadful. Madeleine is so much nicer
Arabella - prettty but long, will be Ella or Bella
Athena - OK. Might end up being Thea for short
Seren - too trendy, 'serrun' sounds harsh. There are prettier names that mean star.

RhubarbAndMustard · 06/07/2024 10:58

Eden. Beautiful name and goes well with the boys names.

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/07/2024 11:54

Eden, Jemima or Matilda

CurlewKate · 06/07/2024 11:59

Eden's not a biblical name for a person, though!
Martha?
Stella
Kate

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2024 14:11

Eden's not a biblical name for a person, though! Neither are Shiloh, Carmel and Bethany.

Eden, Shiloh and Carmel are unisex.

StormingNorman · 06/07/2024 14:14

Ok, don’t hate me but the name that immediately sprang to mind…

…Noah, Jacob and Sarah.

CosFuckThatGuy · 06/07/2024 14:16

Eden always screams to me 'my child is like paradise'. It's close to calling your kid Nevaeh to me. Tricky to pull that off when they're picking their nose or kicking another kid in the park.

Esther is beautiful as is Eve.

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2024 14:16

@StormingNorman , what a refreshing change, and a nice name too.

SummerRose999 · 06/07/2024 14:23

@StormingNorman and @KirstenBlest unfortunately I really can't use Sarah.
A lot of biblical girls names I have a lot of negative associations with too.

Gorgonemilezola · 06/07/2024 14:27

Love Sarah!

Of your list really don't like Shiloh and Madison.

Others OK.

Rebecca is a good strong biblical name, Hannah, Esther, Naomi. Miriam is a beautiful name.

AngelDelightButNotStrawberry · 06/07/2024 14:30

Eden! Goes really well.

Matilda is popular and boring and I hate Tilly. Seren is lovely.

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2024 14:31

Abigail is nice and not overused

Eden or Seren

Marcipex · 06/07/2024 14:39

Eden is lovely.
I think Matilda has a harsh sound and I don’t like Tilly or Tilda.
Jemima is very low-rent.
Arabella is okay but a bit of a mouthful.
Shiloh is utterly awful.

Theoldwoman · 06/07/2024 14:39

Arabella is my favourite!

SummerRose999 · 06/07/2024 14:47

@gorg @Gorgonemilezola unfortunately those are names I experienced in their droves during my childhood and I just associate with those individuals making them unusable.
@KirstenBlest As a same sex couple I really don't think the meaning of Abigail is appropriate. Also dislike Abi.

Eden, Matilda and Serena are my favourites from your list

SummerRose999 · 06/07/2024 14:54

I also forgot to add, I'm starting to like:
Phoebe but not sure if I like enough to use.
Hallie love the meaning already used Henry/Harry so not sure if too similar.
Annie but only on its own.
Grace but super popular.

KirstenBlest · 06/07/2024 14:55

Hadn't thought of that. Plenty of other suggestions though. I like Dorcas.

Gugel · 06/07/2024 14:59

I like Athena most out of your list, though I suppose it's rather stately for a child.
