Love it!

HcbSS · 01/07/2024 21:09

My friend’s rabbit is Octavia! The rabbit is cute 🐇
As a baby name - could be worse. Very different.

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 01/07/2024 21:10

All I think of is the Skoda Octavia unfortunately.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/07/2024 21:12

If she is your eighth child I strongly feel you should use it! If not, it seems try-hard.

Countrygirlxo · 01/07/2024 21:12

I know of an Octavia. I love it, her family nickname her Tavia

NerdyBird · 01/07/2024 21:26

There's a character in The 100 called Octavia. I like it.

WindowViper · 01/07/2024 21:28

I know two, one is Occy, the other Taves.

I quite like Octavia, especially if there’s a link to 8. But it will always be shortened, and I don’t love the obvious nicknames.

WindowViper · 01/07/2024 21:28

I like Flavia if you’re going for the Roman vibe, though.

Octavia64 · 01/07/2024 21:30

Great name!

Eeeden · 01/07/2024 21:35

I really like it and am normally a fan of traditional names. I suppose it is a really old solid name. I'd use it.

doodlejump1980 · 01/07/2024 21:36

Sorry, makes me think of a Skoda.

Borgonzola · 01/07/2024 21:53

I loved it for my first but then went with Antonia Smile

Happyinarcon · 01/07/2024 21:57

Love it, it was on my shortlist but didn’t go with our last name

LlynTegid · 01/07/2024 21:57

No, given as mentioned it is a car name.

scrivette · 01/07/2024 22:10

Great name.

ItWasntMyFault · 01/07/2024 22:25

I think of Octavia the ostrich in Pipkins in the 70s - but that's only because I'm getting old!

It's a nice name though.

SwordToFlamethrower · 01/07/2024 22:28

I had a skoda octavia

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/07/2024 22:35

I wish it had a nice short version for every day use - I’d find it a bit of a mouthful for shouting across the park or introducing myself at work etc, but I’m not too keen on Occy etc…

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/07/2024 22:36

Octavia is beautiful, elegant, Classical (and Shakespearean) and imo criminally underused - although it seems to be finally increasing in popularity now as people look to find the new Ophelia (which in turn was the new Olivia). I’d say get in now before it rises even more. Cute nn in Tavi too.

The car thing is ridiculous - like people assuming “Clio” or “ Mercedes” were named after cars, it says more about them imo - but maybe it depends on your area? 🤔 Equally I understand some people can’t get past the posh/try-hard idea (nearly always said about very Classical names). However people used to say that about names like Rupert, Arabella etc - and eventually they became Top 100 🤣 Not sure Octavia will ever reach quite that high, but formally UC names nearly always filter down to the rest of us eventually!

All I think of is the Skoda Octavia unfortunately.

Same which is a shame as it's not a bad name otherwise.

Fireyflies · 01/07/2024 22:37

It sounds terribly posh to me!

Jeannie88 · 01/07/2024 22:37

I think of the 100 series and thought it was a cool name! Thing is with 4 syllables it will likely be shortened for a nickname. X

PurpleChrayn · 01/07/2024 22:55

Not a fan.

The potential shortenings to Occy and Taves are repulsive.

Redberies · 02/07/2024 07:29

Fireyflies · 01/07/2024 22:37

It sounds terribly posh to me!

Is that good or bad?

Redberies · 02/07/2024 07:29

Is that good or bad?

I suppose it depends what you want! But I wouldn't call a child Octavia. It sounds upper class and snobby to me, personally.
