Longer name for Lovey

We LOVE the name Lovey for a little girl, but obviously for more professional circumstances/later life it wouldn't be appropriate. Any ideas for what Lovey could be a nickname for?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lovey is what someone from up north (like me) would call a random person as a term of endearment.

"Y'alright loveh?"

Or it could be a bad porn star's fake name. Just don't.

YorkshireSunshine · 01/07/2024 16:02

I know a couple of baby girls called Lovella

Waterboatlass · 01/07/2024 16:02

Loveday, Lowenna, Lovisa,

Deadringer · 01/07/2024 16:02

Strangelove

Smartiepants79 · 01/07/2024 16:03

The only real name I can come up with is Loveday.
Lovisa is a jewellery brand.
I really would just pick a name you like and then call her lovey as her nickname.

Notthecarwashagain · 01/07/2024 16:06

That’s what Kris Jenner’s grandchildren call her.
I don’t know how I know this- all my Kardashian knowledge is against my will!

fancystrawberries · 01/07/2024 16:06

Lovisa
Lovina
Lovelia

lotuspocus · 01/07/2024 16:07

What about something with a meaning related to love, like Carys or Amanda?

We currently have Lala (Larissa) if that helps

Like the Teletubby?

Skybluepinky · 01/07/2024 16:08

Oh dear, doesn’t sound like u have thought this through, use a proper name and just call her lovey at home.

Dd's mate has a dd Gifty... Honestly op don't do it..
Lots of perfectly nice names out there.. Lovey isn't one of them.

Gifty is a girl's name from Ghana. I know a very sweet young Gifty, it's a lovely name.

It comes across as pretty ignorant to compare a perfectly normal name from another culture to a made up name like Lovey.

If you don't recognise the name, Google is your friend.

Our little boy is called Bon-bon at home, doesn't mean we named him Bonathan or Bonald.

Bonathan😂

SirChenjins · 01/07/2024 16:14

Loveydovey would work.

Alternatively you could just do what the rest of us do - pick a name you like and then call her lovey or any of the other terms of endearment that exist.

You could call her anything at all and just use Lovey the same way you'd use Honey or Sweetheart.

In fact, I call the children I teach Lovey now that I think of it. Especially if I'm supervising in a room of younger children and I don't know all their names

This. I call DD all manner of silly food-based nicknames. None of them are related to her actual name. Just call her Eleanor, or Sarah or Eugenia and use Lovey at home.

parttimeweddingplanner · 01/07/2024 16:15

I used to call DS Squidget. (No relation to his name, he was just squidgy). He's 6 foot now, it wore off some time ago. Grin

Like the Teletubby?

Desdemona and she could be Dipsy
Tiana and she could be Tinky Winky
Patricia and Po?

Fink · 01/07/2024 16:17

I cannot stress enough, along with most other pp, that you absolutely shouldn't call your child Lovey as an actual name. A family nickname is fine and doesn't need to bear any relation to her official name. Lovey is a generic name anyway, it's just like calling your child Poppet or Darling.

Having said all that, if you really insist on Lovey being related to her actual name, why not go for the word love/beloved in a different language? Plenty of real names are derived from love: Amata, Amanda, and Amy, for example, all derive from the Latin (some of them via French).

Came here to say this. Just move hup North, we'll all call her Lovey anyway.

But please put a decent name on her birth certificate.

mogtheexcellent · 01/07/2024 16:19

Going against the majority but I like it. Its better than a lot of the wacky names out there. I love Loveday as a longer name.

Beautifulbythebay · 01/07/2024 16:19

I've got it.... Lovehoney...
Lovey for short...
The Gifty we know isn't from the beautiful place meantioned...

Maybe use Google to check out my new suggestion...

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/07/2024 16:21

Just call her Lovey on a day to day basis and have a 'normal 'name for public use.
If you are dead set on Lovey then Loveday is the obvious choice ; Lorelei at a stretch maybe ?

FlyingHorses · 01/07/2024 16:21

I knew a little girl called Lovica.
