Strangely I looked at it and straight away said

E - vo

But I reckon it's probably meant to be Eye-vo?

Me too!

Usually Eye- vo in the UK (like more well known Ivan or Ivor).

Ivo is a gorgeous name with a nice meaning - I’m really surprised it’s not more popular since it combines two trends (the popular o ending for boys and the letter V (as in Oliver/Olivia , all the Ev names etc))

Knew one years ago, English, and it was Eye-voe.

I used to live in St Ives, Cambs and there’s a school called St Ivo pronounced EYE-voe.

Dragonsandcats · 29/06/2024 20:24

Eye-vo. have only met one and that is how they pronounced it.

Beginningless · 29/06/2024 20:25

My mind said Eevo. Even though I’d pronounce Ivor as Eye-vor.

StormingNorman · 29/06/2024 20:29

Why would you add an R? Confused

Beginningless · 29/06/2024 21:58

Just saying how I’d pronounce the more familiar name, Ivor - not adding it to Ivo…

It’s not adding - Ivor has an R at the end of it.

Circumferences · 29/06/2024 21:59

Ivo like ivy but o at the end.

VerasMacAndHat · 29/06/2024 22:02

I would say eye-vo but am aware it might be ee-vo

In wales Ivan (spelled Ifan ) would be pronounced Ee-van. In very Welsh speaking areas anyway, where Ivor would be Ee-vor too.

XiCi · 29/06/2024 22:03

I'd pronounce it Ee-vo

FrogNToad · 29/06/2024 22:05

Ee vo, as I knew an Ivo who pronounced it that way.

Yes, I live in Wales and a friend of mine has a toddler Ifan pronounced as you say. I’ve only met English Ivan’s, Ivor’s and Ivo’s though (and of the former two, only elderly ones) so despite little Ifan, I’d probably still expect most Ivo’s to be pronounced with an “eye” sound unless told otherwise - even in Wales.

I know a very nice man named Ivo. He is from Estonia.
His name is pronounced Ee-vo.
