Love the name Lily, we've liked it for a long time as I like that it's flower related and also has family connections.
I'm not put off by how popular it is, but just wanted to get people's opinions and similar suggestions.
Also middle name suggestions (would love the middle name to start with an S but that's not essential, just want to see some nice combinations)
Thanks

Lily Sarah, Lily Siobhan, Lily Saskia, Lily Sabine

Very pretty name - would have been on my girls list of there wasn’t already one in the family. Fairly classic/traditional sounding, sweet flower name. Also love the sound of elegant Lilia too - perhaps even more.

Doesn’t matter that Lily is popular imo - it’s been popular for 30 years now and most kids like meeting others and seeing their name on tat in shops. More annoying is that some spell it Lilly, but still not the end of the world if it gets misspelt.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/06/2024 11:34

Doesn’t start with an S but I love Lily Josephine after I saw it in a book.

LadyDanburysHat · 21/06/2024 11:37

Although it is popular it doesn't mean there will be one around every corner.

My DDs name was no. 3 the year she was born, and she only has one other in her high school year. I wanted to name her a top 50 name and she would have had one in her class in primary.

Go with what you love. Lily is pretty and classic.

TheBirdintheCave · 21/06/2024 11:37

Avoid Lily Susannah as Susannah means 'lily'.

AngelDelightButNotStrawberry · 21/06/2024 11:45

It’s lovely but very very popular. I think as long as you don’t use the filler middle names of Rose/May/Grace. They’ve been done to death.

I like the idea of a more unusual middle name, just struggling to know where to start!

OP posts:
DuchessOfSausage · 21/06/2024 12:39

Susan/Susannah is often said to have the meaning lily but it might be a flower similar to a lily.
Lily/Lillie was used as diminutive of Elizabeth, so I wouldn't worry if you really want to use it.

For a more unusual name, look at online lists of names starting with S.
The ones we immediately think of are usually ones that are currently popular or have been in the past. You might think Sienna, Sophia, Serena, Sarah, Samantha etc but not think of Samia, Sabiha, Seona, Shriya etc

shoopshoopdedoo · 21/06/2024 13:04

Lily is lovely! Much prefer it to Lilia. Love the suggestions of Lily Josephine, and Lily Susannah (despite the double Lily thing!)

DuchessOfSausage · 21/06/2024 13:13

I don't like Lilia.

Firsttimebabymummy · 21/06/2024 14:24

Sienna, shiloh, solena, Sutton

miniaturepixieonacid · 21/06/2024 20:41

I like Lily. Don't love it and it does seem very overused but it's a pretty name and popular names are popular for a reason.

Lily is cute, pretty &

as long as you avoid the may/jo/rode:Belle type middle names.

i like Sophia. But depends on your surname.

how does Lily Surname sound as that's the most important thing really.

Illpickthatup · 23/06/2024 20:10

I like Lily and I don't think it's too popular. It's a classic. What about Lyla or Lola for something similar but different?

Love the Jasmine suggestion. I love the name as a first name but really dislike it being shortened (which I'm sure it would be as she got older)

I would say a three syllable middle name is best. More musical when spoken.

Lily Susanna
Lily Carys
Lily Blythe
Lily Victoria
Lily Matilda
