I'm due DS in just over 2 weeks and am undecided on a name. Which name do you prefer? Charlie or Stanley. Big brother is Louie.

I like Stanley better. It is a friendly name. Charlie is so overused, there are dozens of them around.

I don't get this "old man name" complaint. Girls are getting called Enid and Ada because the vintage vibe is back in style and Stanley fits that trend perfectly.

Yes, it doesn't bother me that some view it as an old fashioned name.

Charlie. It's supposed to be common tho but I only know of 1

Kingsleadhat · 08/06/2024 09:31

I know a gorgeous little Stanley which has made me love the name. As a republican I find Charlie a bit regal 😆

yarnwitch · 08/06/2024 09:44

Stanley is cute for a baby but I'm not so keen on it otherwise.
Charlie is extremely popular, there seems to be one in every class around here. The ones I know are very likeable boys with big personalities and I haven't heard it shortened at all.

Liv999 · 08/06/2024 09:54

Love Charlie, hate Stanley

CharlieBoo · 08/06/2024 09:59

Definitely Charlie.. (not biased at all 🥰)

I think it works better on all ages rather than Stanley.

Mummyboy1 · 08/06/2024 10:22

I know a little Stanley! He's very cute and cheeky ! Love the name

WheelofCheeses · 08/06/2024 10:27

I find Charlie boring and overdone. So Stanley I guess.

cheapskatemum · 08/06/2024 10:38

I love Stanley. It was my late Grandad's name and he was an amazing man. I'm so glad it's becoming popular again. I only know of one boy called Stanley, whereas I know lots of Charlies. This would also put me off naming a child Charlie.

MerryChristmasToYou · 08/06/2024 10:46

Stanley goes better with Louie

Kitkat1523 · 08/06/2024 11:05

Stanley

Narcissisticflipflop · 08/06/2024 11:12

Stanley , was my boy name but never got to use it 😂

purplehills32 · 08/06/2024 13:42

I prefer Stanley 😊

Fontainebleau007 · 08/06/2024 14:23

Stanley

Heavenlyhoumous · 11/06/2024 19:57

Stanley, so many Charlies.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/06/2024 20:00

I love them both actually. But Charlie is a bit less 'trendy' so may age slightly better?
You could use both, one as middle?

We are planning to use my Dads name as the middle name. I'm leaning more towards Stanley but DH prefers Charlie

@acupofteamakeseverythingbetter they're both lovely. Can I ask the middle name?

I love them both <helpful>.

But I hate siblings with matching ‘ee’ ending names. Too twee.

So Stanley for me as you could call him Stan.

BobbyBiscuits · 11/06/2024 20:46

@acupofteamakeseverythingbetter I love Robert, it's a family name of mine too!

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/06/2024 20:47

I'd use Robert.

Beginningless · 11/06/2024 20:49

I adore Stanley - fave boys name ever. I didn’t have a boy and DH wouldn’t have agreed so it’s the name of my robot hoover 😆.

Charlie is ok but there are millions of them. I love Stan as an affectionate name, ‘come on wee Stan the man’ - a wee boy would love that!

Greaterorlesser · 11/06/2024 21:00

Charles, but my favourite boy name is Michael
