31 weeks pregnant with my second child, a little girl. We have a 3 year old boy already.

Our top two names are

Lyla
Etta

Which do you prefer? Surname is 11letters long and starts with an L. Brothers name starts with an E.

Happy to wait and see what she looks like when she's born, but can't seem to choose a favourite out of these two! OH prefers Lyla, I prefer Etta 😅

Thank you 💜

Lyla 💗

TribeofFfive · 03/06/2024 06:38

Etta. Not a huge fan of Lyla and there’s so many variations of it in my children’s school; Lyla, Lila, Leila, Layla.

Etta is a classic, timeless and elegant name.

LemonCitron · 03/06/2024 06:38

I love both these names! I think Lyla is my favourite.

BoleynMemories13 · 03/06/2024 06:54

I much prefer Lyla. Etta feeds for nicknamey to me and I'm just not keen on the sound. It sounds like a young child with confused grammar talking about what they have eaten:- "I et a banana" etc.

Lyla is beautiful, as long as it goes with your surname? Some names with alliteration sound amazing, others can sound cartoonish. It totally depends on the names.

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/06/2024 06:58

Lyla is my favourite- a beautiful name :)

Etta is lovely but I think would use it as short for another name, e.g. Violet, Harriet etc..

WaltzingWaters · 03/06/2024 07:01

Both lovely. I think Etta slightly wins, but both are really nice.

blitzen · 03/06/2024 07:04

Love Etta, but as a geordie, the pronunciation isn't that nice.

EMJL · 03/06/2024 07:10

@blitzen haha! I can imagine how different accents will sound.

We live in the South East 😅 xx

Etta maybe short for Henrietta?

EMJL · 03/06/2024 07:45

@BoleynMemories13 my only concern about Lyla is the amount of L's with our surname too! I do think it sounds silly, but it's a little bit of a mouthful x

Etta.

OopsieeDaisy · 03/06/2024 07:54

Lyla is a bit chavvy where I live, so I would say Etta. That said, I’m not keen on alliteration either between sibling names or first and surnames but that’s just my personal preference.

I do prefer Etta and did think about the L's with your last name.

Can I vote again for Etta? Wink

Lyla is a bit chavvy here too. All the chavvy little girls are named Darcey or Lyla!

Etta is beautiful however!

@CadyEastman you can vote for Etta as many times as you like 😘 might help me convince OH! 😅

With the names alliterating would be very weird - like some sort of comic book superhero - Lyla Laneshaw for example! It just looks and sounds strange - like I semi expect 'The adventures of Lyla Laneshaw' to be an Enid Blyton book!

Please +50 votes for Etta Grin

EMJL · 03/06/2024 08:22

@OopsieeDaisy I did think about the alliteration but I think I prefer the siblings with the same initial rather than the surname. At least they are of different sex so things like receiving letters shouldn't be an issue with the same initial x

NetMum2 · 03/06/2024 09:01

I prefer Lyla. Etta sounds more like a nickname and not a standalone name. Plus I’d personally avoid siblings with the same initial.

Dontknowwhyidoit · 03/06/2024 12:20

I think Etta is lovely

Mumofgirls2017 · 03/06/2024 12:24

And here

Comedycook · 03/06/2024 12:44

Lyla I think.

I was put off Etta when I saw it used by some dreadful hipster type parents at a funfair once.

buma · 03/06/2024 12:45

Etta

WheelofCheeses · 03/06/2024 13:08

Lyla.

Don’t like Etta at all, it’s so harsh sounding. It also doesn’t feel like an actual name, just as a nickname for something.
