I've always had it down as a boys name, but starting to like it for a girl!

Whenever I hear the name I always think of a boy. I definitely prefer it on a boy though out of the two

amylou8 · 01/06/2024 17:18

I love the name. I think it works equally well for either.

KayEmAy · 01/06/2024 17:18

I think it works for both, personal preference is first name for a boy but I love it as a middle name for a girl! I have a coworker with a Daisy Jude and I love it:)

ShowOfHands · 01/06/2024 17:20

My niece is Jude so I tend to think girl first.

Beigel · 01/06/2024 17:20

As a girl's name it's short for Judith. I know a couple of female Judes!

TealDog · 01/06/2024 17:20

I think it works both ways, but it very popular for boys at the minute.

averylongtimeago · 01/06/2024 17:31

It's a boys name. Some people use it as a nickname for a girl named Judy or Judith.

That said, having read Jude the Obscure, it's not a name I would choose.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/06/2024 17:43

I think of it as a girls name - short for Judith. It’s common among 50 year old ladies around me. I’ve never met a boy called Jude but I can see from this site that it’s trendy at the moment for baby boys.

NetMum2 · 01/06/2024 19:11

I think it’s a boys name - although I can only think of Jude Law.

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2024 19:49

Jude Bellingham, Jude Law, Hey Jude.
For a girl or woman I'd think it was short for Judith or Judy.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/06/2024 20:24

I know both. Works for both I think. Nice name.

hattie43 · 01/06/2024 20:33

Boy

StripedPiggy · 01/06/2024 20:39

Boy, because of Jude Bellingham.

Most football pundits expect him to establish himself as the best player in the world over the next couple of years, he is very likely to become the next England captain and to become a household name among people with no interest in football.

SausageRoll2020 · 01/06/2024 20:48

It's a boys name, of biblical origin I think.
If a heard of a girl called Jude, I would presume it was a nickname for Judith.

OatcakeCravings · 01/06/2024 20:50

I’ve always thought of it as a male name. I know two female Jude’s but both a nickname for Judith.

Outnumbered247 · 01/06/2024 20:51

Boy , personally don't love the Judith/ Judy association

Clingfilm · 01/06/2024 21:08

Boy as full name, girl as nickname (for Judith)

Littlelillies · 01/06/2024 21:30

Girls name.

It's short for Judith. I know ow several female Judes and Judies.

Jude means Jew in German

CurlewKate · 01/06/2024 21:34

It's a boy's name. If you wouldn't call a boy Sophie, don't call a girl Jude.

Bobbybobbins · 01/06/2024 22:10

Prefer it for a boy

DinaofCloud9 · 01/06/2024 22:17

I like it much better for a boy.

Glitterbiscuits · 01/06/2024 22:33

It's a boys name.

SallyWD · 01/06/2024 22:33

Boy

SoupDragon · 01/06/2024 22:35

Boy, because it's a boy's name.

longdistanceclaraclara · 01/06/2024 22:39

Boy, and ice cream.
