Names invented by young children

I thought perhaps, to widen the pool of available names, we could share new names that children have made up for their dolls etc.

Today we have twin baby dolls: Argy and Bargy .

They have new names daily, I notably remember Moonie and Vaggie, will try and recall some others.

I'm sure there must be many other gems out there?

When my son started at nursery, he told me he had made some friends. When I asked what their names were, he said: ‘Frolic, Dolic and Bolic’ 🤔

(He did eventually make some real friends with real names).

My DD had a favourite doll when she was younger; princess rainbow sparkles. We had to address her using her full name.
When I was pregnant with DC2, DD put forward princess glitter sparkles as a name. Sadly for her, DC2 was a boy and didn’t look like a Princess glitter sparkles.

We have a stuffed goose called Santa. No connection to Christmas whatsoever. Didn't arrive at Christmas. We're vegan so no concept of eating goose at Christmas.

A strong vote from a 5 year old for removing the restriction of social norms and connections attached to names here.

When I was two or three I had one of those baby dolls with blonde curls and eyes that closed when you tipped them over. It was called Christopher Columbus.

That is brilliant!
I wonder if they have a cousin called Colic.

I don't want to spoil the thread by commenting on everything so suffice to say these are all brilliant and I love this thread already, please keep them coming!

DD has some lovely knitted dolls called Lolly Baby and Lolly Ballanina. They used to be taken for walks in their little pushchair around the park... happy times 😊 They won't be going to the charity shop or handed down!

My daughter loves making up names for her dolls - some regulars are

Tinsen
Vinsen
Lulan
Rason

(the likes the n sound at the end I think 🤣)

and then randomly Lulu & Robbie!

My DS keeps calling me Mrs Bagago and cannot tell me where this came from.

He wants a brother called Danker as it is a mix of his 2 best friends.

When DD1 was a toddler, her grandmother gave her a rather pretty doll. When discussing names, DH suggested Hubert. Guess what stuck.
Fast forward 2 years... DD2 got given a doll. Who she also named Hubert. Grandmother not happy!

We still have the Hubert twins.
DH wasn't allowed to attend any future doll naming.

When ds was a toddler he claimed he had a friend at nursery called “Benzi”. The nursery carers had no idea who Benzi was. (Ds wanted him round to play.) We spent a lot of time trying to understand who Benzi could possibly be until we eventually came to the realisation that Benzi didn’t exist.

And then I went to a “parents come and play” session at nursery. I was sitting on the carpet when a girl I had never seen before said to me whilst pointing at a boy (I had also never seen before) “It’s Benzi!”

It was very confusing and I almost wondered if I had dreamt it.

My best guess is that his name was Benjamin and shortened to Benjy. But he couldn’t say his “j” correctly so called himself Benzi.

DS had an imaginary friend called Strawberry Pants when he was a toddler. He was always going off to London to behave badly.

My sister had one called Simon 😂

My youngest immediately named the very cute soft seal toy the obvious name of:

Soft Palace

I think it could be in the top ten in the next few years.

Wigeon · 31/05/2024 21:24

DD2 named her toy doll Agog. No idea why.

BarnacleBeasley · 31/05/2024 21:35

My 3 year old recently had a short-lived imaginary friend called Edalie. I can actually imagine quite a few mumsnetters going for that!
