I thought perhaps, to widen the pool of available names, we could share new names that children have made up for their dolls etc.

Today we have twin baby dolls: Argy and Bargy .

They have new names daily, I notably remember Moonie and Vaggie, will try and recall some others.

I'm sure there must be many other gems out there?

My 6yo has an imaginary friend named Victor BoobyTalk.

He's a crocodile.

ExP had a lovely little niece. The first time I met her and her parents, she introduced me to all her dolls. Her favourite was a black girl. Her mum explained: 'we both grew up in racially mixed areas and I want her to see people who don't look like her' (they were in Ascot).

Niece had named this doll, with great ceremony, after her favourite of her parents' friends. Rupert.

Pet names were always a weird one

Fish
Captain
Shakra

Hamster
Bungie
Quick Sticks
Shopkins

Even now as a teen her names are just odd, her dog is called Geoff. If she ever has dc I'll be intrigued as to what she'll call them 🤣

That is brilliant!
I wonder if they have a cousin called Colic.

My DS had imaginary friends called HobNob and DibDob!

GoingOnHol · 03/06/2024 17:18

DD named a stuffed banana Peely when she was 12 😀

Cattenberg · 03/06/2024 17:26

DD’s nursery friends included Mr Tilder (Matilda), Waitress (Beatrice), Orteek (Audrey?) and Molly Pyjamas (still no idea).

For a while, everything DD found was named Orteek, including the toad who lived under a log in the garden.

DD also liked to pretending to be a shopkeeper and she named her shop Margaret.

Most of my daughter’s toys have pretty ordinary names.
Apart from the very dull but very aptly and adorably named teddy who has been with her since she was in NICU- Hospital Ted. The name has just stuck ❤️

I know a young woman in her early twenties who was named by her older sister (in the early 2000s). Maisie Dora. Spot the influences!

DD(12) has about 50 soft toys, including Omley, Wobby, a lion called Tiger and Dezza.

It wasn’t a doll/toy it was his ‘blankie’ except he couldn’t say blankie/blanket instead it was wank or wanker. Got some strange looks with a little boy shouting for a wank…

We currently have a cow called Sheep and a sheep called Cow.

(DC knows what animals they are, but insists those are their names)

Checkmymoves · 03/06/2024 19:47

Meganie and Turkey. Imaginary friends that came as a pair.

TemporalMechanic · 03/06/2024 19:48

My baby dolls had normal names: Zoe, Sarah, Catherine, Michaela, Jessica. I remember thinking hard about these and imagining I was naming a real baby!

But the Barbies got the short straw: Stacii, Lavendar and Fishalina.

I also had a toy mouse named Queen Mousetoria.

coxesorangepippin · 03/06/2024 19:48

Vomitate = vomiting

Durdledore · 03/06/2024 19:51

My DD always had a penchant for naming soft toys mildly 70s/80s names, so we have teddies called Geoff and Martin here. 😂

LaMadrilena · 03/06/2024 19:53

My wonderful Grandma gave me a doll for Christmas when I was 2. I called her Duvet. DD has just inherited her, but she's kept her name.

My DD (3) introduces herself to strangers as "Big [name]". They call her that at nursery to differentiate from "Baby [name]", a little girl in the baby class with the same name.

One of DD's nursery friends calls her Pilala, which bears absolutely no similarity to her real name!

When pregnant with dc2 I asked dc1 what names we could call the baby.

She pondered for a few minutes before saying, very confidently, "green man".

We had been doing a lot of road safety / crossing the road nicely for a few weeks at that point.

Thankfully her little sister just didn't suit Green Man so we went with something else.

HalfBloodPrincess · 03/06/2024 19:59

offlajog, burgernaut and Cornelius onion bhaji

ThaiNoodles · 03/06/2024 20:00

We have chickens called:-
Blahga - (Blah-GA)
Sauzer (like a flying saucer with a z)
Skylark

FlyingHorses · 03/06/2024 20:04

What a great idea for a thread!
My toddler has a pair of teddies he’s called Brankle and Ferlin.

TheFormidableMrsC · 03/06/2024 20:09

My daughter had an imaginary friend who was pink and called Gooey. If she did anything naughty she always said "Gooey did it". I must remind her of Gooey now she's an adult!

ProfessorPeppy · 03/06/2024 20:10

Can I widen the remit of this thread to include mad theme songs for cuddly toys?

DS1 had a Ben Banana, and we would sing (to the tune of Womanizer by Britney Spears) BEN BANANA BEN BANANA OH YOU’RE A BEN BANANA whilst making Ben Banana do a humiliating dance

You will shortly find me lobbying for 'Cornelius Onion Bhaji' on the Baby Names Topic...

Brave choice. I think I prefer Green Man.

My ds apparently knew two boys called Mutt and Nut
