Sorry for starting another thread, but I would like some opinions on the names Theo and Louis. What do you think of them?

I want a back up name in case the little man doesn't suit his name.

they both are very nice, I have an image of a smart respectable young man

belgo · 05/04/2008 19:43

How would you pronounce Louis?

donnie · 05/04/2008 19:44

I love Theo. Not so keen on Louis.

OverMyDeadBody · 05/04/2008 19:44

I agree with the others, they are both rather nice, and would work equally well on a little boy as on an adult.

Kimi · 05/04/2008 19:44

Louis is a lovely name.
Theo reminds me also of the Cosbys, sorry

mrz · 05/04/2008 19:45

As a teacher I can't help associating names with children I have taught so could never pick either name.

belgo · 05/04/2008 19:46

mrz, that must limit your choice!

BrassicMonkey · 05/04/2008 19:46

Like both, but prefer Louis spelt as Lewis, unless you're pronouncing it Lewy (which I don't really like).

belgo · 05/04/2008 19:47

yes Louis should be pronounced the french way. which is way I asked how do people pronounce it.

ScubaDuba · 05/04/2008 19:48

Theo is nice, reminds me of Theo Paphitis from Dragon's Den, not keen on Louis, prefer Lewis (no ambiguity about pronunciation!).

EllenJane · 05/04/2008 19:49

Louis - Lou-ee

Are they naughty boys' names? My (rather snobby) friend said that Theo is a bit 'lowbrow' now. I tend to not listen too much to what she has to say though :0)

Oh no, I can't stand Lewis! Definitely Lou-ee.

I also don't like Lewis that much. Louis is far nicer IMO.

mrz · 05/04/2008 20:04

No lots of names of children I have taught would be acceptable it's only the ones that have negative connotations I couldn't consider.

madame · 05/04/2008 20:04

I think Theo is a much cooler name

MadameCh0let · 05/04/2008 20:07

I think I'd combine them and say that I prefer Leo.

I still do like Louis and Theo though. I just think they are both a bit 'urban cool' to quote dragonpeahead (if I may coin your phrase).

Both great names still, they were probably on my lists 5 and 3 yrs ago.

Definitely still love Leo though. I am not catholic but I seem to like Pope's names. God only knows why. I love Gregory, Benedict, Dominic..... John!

Actually, was there a pope called Louis? Or was that a king?

I've waffled on for too long now.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 05/04/2008 20:10

I love the name Theo!

Cecy · 05/04/2008 21:15

I slightly prefer Louis (Lou-ee), Theo although generally acceptable as a stand-alone name, to me feels unfinished. I prefer as a nickname for Theodore.

collision · 05/04/2008 21:17

theo

Dont like lewis at all.

Louis is ok but prefer theo

Desiderata · 05/04/2008 21:21

I'm not keen on either, tbh, but if I had to go with one, it would be Louis.

Theo is a tad pretentious.

lottiejenkins · 05/04/2008 21:26

I totally love Theo!! I have a friend whos sons given name is Lewis but since he was tiny we have always called him Louis so thats a nice name too! If i'd had 3rd ds he'd have been Theo!

Tinker · 05/04/2008 21:27

Really like Louis. Don't like Lewis at all so glad it won't be that. Don't like Theo really. Do like popes names as well, I realise.
