Expecting a baby girl and these are our top names. Which do you like best? Which least?
Our surname is Knightley.

Alexandra is a great name with lots of diminutives.

Moreteaandchocolate · 28/05/2024 05:26

I voted for Aimee as it’s a lovely, simple and pretty classic, that’s underused these days but sounds modern because it’s fits with the trend for vowelly names well.

I also love Chloe.

Francesca and Alexandra are great names, but quite long and may get shortened to Alex / Frankie, which are quite nice but not as nice as Aimee or Chloe in my opinion.

I find Victoria a bit posh as a full name for some reason, and I’m not super keen on Vicky.

songaboutjam · 28/05/2024 05:40

I voted for Victoria because, paired with the surname, it has the best ring to it.

Aimee and Chloe end in the same sound as Knightley and I'm not such a fan. Francesca and Alexandra are OK but I think Victoria comes out the winner purely because of the strong emphasis on that second syllable. It makes it sound the least monotonous of the names on your shortlist.

Meredusoleil · 28/05/2024 06:14

I would put these names into 2 different groups.

A. Aimee and Chloe. Both nice enough and go well with the surname as similar sounding ending.

B. Victoria, Francesca and Alexandra. All classic names with lots of options for short forms.

Fwiw I voted for Alexandra, but also love Francesca.

Alexandra is a great name with lots of diminutives.

This, it also sounds lovely and classy with your surname.

PublicServicesShitShow · 28/05/2024 06:25

I don’t love Aimee and Chloe but they are fine. However, personally, I prefer the ‘Amy’ spelling.

I really like the other three names and the choice of nicknames.

Francesca nn Frankie (or Chessie/Cheska)

Alexandra -I like the nn Sasha - I think in parts of Europe, Sacha is a boys diminutive or Alexander so it works! I also like Alex.

Victoria - love the sound in full. I don’t like Tori/Tor. Vic, Vicky, Vix are ok but not my favourite. I do love Vita but would worry it would be naturally abbreviated to Vix.

Francesca is my favourite because I like all of the nickname options!

NetMum2 · 28/05/2024 06:26

I struggled to choose between Victoria and Alexandra! Went with Victoria…

This wrt the groupings. The first two are nice enough, but we're both very "on trend" a while back (although spelled Amy) Chloe was the top girls' name for a few years.

The other three are less "dateable". Just timeless. I voted Victoria.

Sarah2891 · 28/05/2024 06:27

Francesca

CadyEastman · 28/05/2024 06:41

I'm not keen on the shortening of Victoria to Vicky or Vic.

All of the others are lovely though, if I had to choose one it would be Alexandra.

Amx · 28/05/2024 06:58

Not keen on Aimee or Chloe as bit 2000s to me.

I don't like Alexa or Tory nn so would have to pick Francesca but not keen on Franny either.

merrymelodies · 28/05/2024 07:00

My name and DD's name are on your list. I pick Francesca or Alexandra.

MrsWhattery · 28/05/2024 07:04

I would prefer to be called Francesca or Alexandra so I could have the option of a more tomboyish short version. I voted Francesca as I think Frankie is a cool name for a girl.

GoodVibesHere · 28/05/2024 07:05

Victoria does go very nicely with your surname. I like the nickname Tori.

I also like Alexandra, but the 'Alexa' would put me off slightly.

Gorgonemilezola · 28/05/2024 07:08

Not Aimee or Chloe. Others are lovely.

Toomuchgoingon79 · 28/05/2024 07:11

Alexandra is the best Chloe is the worst.

TidyDancer · 28/05/2024 07:13

Alexandra is by far the nicest in your list but Chloe and Francesca are also lovely. Not keen on Aimee (Amy a bit nicer) or Victoria.

Needanewname42 · 28/05/2024 07:24

I voted Victoria, but its a close call between Victoria, Amy (I prefer the simple spelling) and Alexandra.

I'm not keen on Chloè it just doesn't look right, probably because of the hl which isn't a common combination in English.

Francesca is lovely but it's likely to get shortened and I don't like Fran.

tinytemper66 · 28/05/2024 07:43

Francesca- loads of Aimees, Chloe's and Alex's around

anyonesellinganark · 28/05/2024 08:10

Aimee doesn't go with your surname. Victoria also sounds a bit clunky with your surname.

Chloe, Francesca or Alexandra go well. Chloe sounds best I think with Knightley but Francesca is just lovely.

Tangwystl · 28/05/2024 09:06

My DD2 was Alexandra when she was born, but I kept looking at her thinking it wasn’t right for her, she was a Chloe. It suits her much better.
They're all lovely names. Maybe you can ‘settle’ on one, but be open minded about changing it when you meet her?

Usernamewassavedsuccessfully · 28/05/2024 09:11

I like Alexandra or (I appreciate this is not your preferred spelling) Amy. Aimee and Amy are, in my head, very different people.
I like Victoria and Francesca but really do not like any of their diminutives - I think it ends up being Vicky/Frankie v Chesca/Tori and all are bad.
Chloe is ok but I don't like 'Chlo'.

mactire · 28/05/2024 09:12

I like the simplicity of Amy but I don’t like the pairings of double ee sounds - for me that rules out both Chloe and Amy with your surname.

The other three, I think it just comes down to what potential nicknames you could/couldn’t stand. I don’t like Vicky or Alex, so Francesca would be my choice.

Firsttimebabymummy · 28/05/2024 09:28

Victoria with your surname is lovely.

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 28/05/2024 09:39

Francesca is very current (Bridgerton)!

I like Alexandra too because there's many nicknames to choose (if that's your thing)
