Expecting a baby girl and these are our top names. Which do you like best? Which least?
Our surname is Knightley.

Alexandra ( I liked nn Sacha)

Francesca

Springwatch123 · 28/05/2024 11:18

Alexandra and Victoria are my favourites.

Chloe is my least favourite.

Love Amy, but not Aimee spelling.

Francesca is somewhere in the middle .

Pemba · 28/05/2024 11:31

1.Chloe
2.Francesca

  1. Alexandra
  2. Aimee
  3. Victoria

But they are all nice names really, there isn't a bad choice there.

I knew people would slag off Chloe just because it was super popular a while ago! So predictable. It's still a beautiful name though, similar to Zoe which I actually like even more.

Pemba · 28/05/2024 11:33

That should have been

  1. Chloe
  2. Francesca
  3. Alexandra
  4. Aimee
  5. Victoria

All nice names. The Amy spelling is more classic than Aimee, and less prone to teasing.

FayCarew · 28/05/2024 11:58

Aimee - don't like the spelling. Not keen on Amy but it's better than Aimee
Chloe - was overused about 20 years ago so dated
Victoria - like, best from your list
Francesca - ok but a bit fussy
Alexandra - like but it's long so will be shortened

@Pemba , hardly anyone has mentioned Chloe being dated but thanks for pointing it out.

RuthW · 28/05/2024 12:17

Victoria is lovely.

Chloe is dated and Aimee is a bit.

CrushingOnRubies · 28/05/2024 12:20

I like Victoria or Alexandra the best with Knightly

Not keen on Aimee. Like Amy
Francesca too many K sounds. I know Kn is silently but tripping over it

Quite like Chloe tbf

mintich · 28/05/2024 12:23

Alexandra by a mile!

Fontainebleau007 · 28/05/2024 13:31

Francesca or Alexandra are my top 2 here.
Aimee is my least fav.

TotalDramarama24 · 28/05/2024 14:33

Love Alexandra, Victoria, Francesca

Not keen on Aimee or Chloe and don't think they are the same style of name as the others

Pemba · 28/05/2024 14:53

@FayCarew I didn't use the term dated that's on you. In fact Chloe is a classic name, featured in poetry etc. Just because it had a wave of popularity a few decades ago, I don't see how that matters?

Aimee is the French spelling isn't it? (probably there should be an accent somewhere in there). So not a made up spelling. Somebody thought she would be teased for it, why though?

The most 'dated' name in there is Victoria imo, since I know a lot born in the 1970s. But apparently that's in again? All a bit arbitrary. I don't mind Victoria though.

FayCarew · 28/05/2024 16:32

@Pemba , Chloe was overused for a period having not been used much before. so it seemed to be a spike not a wave. There was a time when it seemed to be every other baby girl's name.
Every other boy at the time seemed to be a Jack.

Caravaggiouch · 28/05/2024 16:36

Alexandra is my favourite. And it’s not a given that it has to be shortened; it’s 4 syllables, same as Olivia, and no one thinks a nickname is compulsory for that.

Prefer Amy to Aimee, I only really like Chloe when pronounced in a French accent, and I find Victoria a bit hard. Francesca is lovely too.

FayCarew · 28/05/2024 16:42

I say Olivia pretty much as 3 syllables. Ol-iv-ya, and the syllables are short. Alexandra seems much longer.

KayEmAy · 28/05/2024 16:52

Alexandra Knightly is incredible

Berlinlover · 28/05/2024 16:54

I voted for Aimee but I prefer it spelled Amy.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/05/2024 17:39

Victoria nn Vita is lovely. Alexandra nn Sasha is also very nice. Both classic names with more contemporary sounding nicknames. Im not as keen on the nn choices for Francesca and I find Aimee and Chloe a bit 90s sounding.

OopsieeDaisy · 28/05/2024 18:35

I clicked Alexandra by mistake, actually meant to choose Francesca which I love. Second choice would be Aimee.

SkaneTos · 28/05/2024 19:23

All good names! I voted for Chloe.

User6761 · 28/05/2024 19:24

I voted Francesca as it's a lovely name and sounds good with your surname. But if I was to think of which name I'd personally like to have I'd go for Amy (that spelling) - as I'd like to have a short, simple name.

I think you can change your voting by clicking on another alternative. I have changed my voting in "AIBU" sometimes.

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/05/2024 20:01

Love Alexandra and Chloe. Voted for Alexandra, as that’s what I’d rather be called! I also like Amy, but not so keen on Aimee spelling.

Victoria is nice but I don’t like the nicknames. Francesca is less to my taste.

IamaRevenant · 28/05/2024 20:11

Francesca! I don't usually love longer/'frilly' names but I love this, it's so classy and pretty and I adore Frankie as a shortening.

Alexandra/Alex/Lexie is really nice for similar reasons.

Victoria is ok but I really don't like Vicky. I like Vita as suggested by a PP but I think once it's beyond your control (ie at school etc) 'Vicky' is probably pretty inevitable.

Chloe is ok but a bit meh. Also makes me think cloying or clammy (sorry!).

Actively dislike Aimee (especially with that spelling) and it doesn't seem to fit with all your other options which are pretty classic. Also feels pretty dated (as does Chloe to a slightly lesser extent).

SatinHeart · 28/05/2024 20:15

They are all nice names!

I like Aimee (though not spelled like that if I'm honest) and Chloe but I don't think they go with your surname as just a bit too rhymey.

Francesca goes best with Knightley imo
