Hi...

We have finally managed to narrow our search for a Scandi baby girl name down to either:

First name + middle name:

Astrid Thora
or
Thora Astrid

Help!! Which one is nicest? We love both <3

It might help you to choose if you consider it alongside your surname (not asking you to divulge this) but sometimes the order sounds better depending on your last name, and you might want to think about initials as well. If you love both then it’s just an extra way of determining which might be best.

I would go for Astrid Thora simply because that way you're not ending one name on 'a' and starting the next with 'a' as well (although it's not the same sound so it's not actually problematic for pronunciation).

Astrid Thora.

cherryassam · 23/05/2024 12:16

Astrid Thora

DavidRosesEyebrows · 23/05/2024 12:17

Astrid Thora - it flows better. But it's dependent on your surname

FirstFallopians · 23/05/2024 12:17

No help as I love both combinations.

Lovely strong names!

romdowa · 23/05/2024 12:22

Astrid thora definitely works better because you aren't running two vowels together

Agree! Coolest names ever.

I like both - I can see your dilemma! Are you pronouncing Thora as Tora? I really like both pronunciations but just wondering if Astrid has fewer pronunciation issues if so?

BeaLola · 23/05/2024 12:27

Prefer Astrid Thora - prefer Astrid overall as a name - it's lovely, not so popular, easy to spell& works for a child, teenager and woman

l0ml · 23/05/2024 12:38

Astrid is absolutely beautiful and Thora is not.

Frostfable · 23/05/2024 12:43

Astrid is a lovely name. Thora is terrible.
it doesn’t seem to work as a combination

Nicebloomers · 23/05/2024 12:44

Astrid Thora. Love it! Great choice.

Needmorelego · 23/05/2024 12:48

I like Astrid simply because my terrible accent would say Thora as "For-rah" 😂
Plus I think Astrid is prettier.
No offence to any Thora's out there.

CardiganTardigan · 23/05/2024 12:59

Thora is lovely, Astrid is harsh sounding. I don’t get the love.

LeopardPrintIsNeutral · 23/05/2024 13:00

we've an Astrid I think it’s a lovely name

Firsttimebabymummy · 23/05/2024 14:29

Astrid Thora- lovely.

IsadoraQuagmire · 23/05/2024 14:31

Astrid Thora sounds better. But I prefer Thora as a first name.

Thanks! :) Since we live in the UK, I think it will be "Thora" and not "Tora". But my Scandi family will say "Tora" :D

Thanks everyone! Even though Astrid has had more love on here, I am still leaning towards the slightly more unusual "Thora" as I just love it in both languages :) But it's so hard to decide since I think "Astrid" would somehow work better in the UK... hmm..

Thora is nice but would be ‘Fora around here. Not me, but I am not from where I live! Astrid is my favourite of the two.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 23/05/2024 15:59

Thora Astrid. Absolutely beautiful!

Gruffling · 23/05/2024 16:10

I love both, but prefer Thora and think it's well known in UK due to Dame Thora Birch. Wait until you meet her - you might feel like one suits her better.

Astrid reminds me of the book White Oleander , not in a good way.

I am smiling because this is the kind of mix-up I would make Grin.

Thora Birch is the American actress from Ghost World and American Beauty.

Dame Thora Hird was the actress who starred in Last of the Summer Wine and advertised Stannah stairlifts in the 90s!
