Harley - A boy or girls name?

Nikki112 · 22/05/2024 08:28

Hi Everyone!

I am expecting my 3rd child in October and it's going to be a boy :)

We are thinking the name HARLEY.

I was just wondering if people initially think of the name as being a boy or a girls name?

Thanks for any answers :)

It's unisex, I know a boy and a girl.

Ereyraa · 22/05/2024 10:00

It’s awful for both, but I think if it as mainly boy name.

ItsSconeNotScone · 22/05/2024 10:02

I would definitely say boy, and I have never met either a male or female Harley so I have no reason to be swayed either way. I’ve also never met a dog named Harley as suggested by previous posters…..

I am personally not a fan of the name, but it’s definitely not one that needs to be avoided just because a motorcycle brand has the same name! If you like it, it’s a perfectly normal and suitable name to call your child ☺️ If someone called their child “Hunter” I wouldn’t automatically think they were huge fans of the Wellington brand!

legendwill · 22/05/2024 10:04

I have a friend wants to name her child Harley also.

InTheRainOnATrain · 22/05/2024 10:05

Never met one. Only heard of the motorbike or Harley Quinn so on that basis I’d say girl?!

CurlewKate · 22/05/2024 10:05

It's a motor bike's name.

Needmorelego · 22/05/2024 10:13

The motorbikes were actually named after a person though.
Although Harley was his surname.

Kalevala · 22/05/2024 10:15

Neither. Bike.

Kitkat1523 · 22/05/2024 10:18

I know a girl aged 5 …. I don’t like it for boy or girl…think it’s ugly

TribeofFfive · 22/05/2024 10:56

CurlewKate · 22/05/2024 10:05

It's a motor bike's name.

Do you advise people wanting to use Daisy, Lily or Primrose that they’re flower names?

CurlewKate · 22/05/2024 11:07

No. But I would point it out if someone was thinking about calling their child Lenor or Nivea…..

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/05/2024 11:24

I would say it's more a boy name. I know two Harley's.

VisitationRights · 22/05/2024 11:25

I think of it as a boy’s name but do know females with the name.

I think boy, though I've never actually met anyone with this name (the one of Waterloo Road was a boy and that's my only frame of reference!)

I tend to think:
Harley and Harvey = boy
Hadley and Hayley - girl

CurlewKate · 22/05/2024 12:49

It always amuses me that whenever anyone mentions an unusual or controversial name, lots of posters say "There are 10 in my dc's class!" "I know loads!". It does seem remarkable in this case when there have been about 300ish out of 600,000 babies born every year....

MrsMitford3 · 22/05/2024 12:51

Motorbike or Harley Quinn so I think girl

but you asked OP- it's def a no go

forgotname · 22/05/2024 19:02

I think unisex. Don't know anyone called it btw.

Don't be sorry that you asked, as usual people on this app are just rude for no reason.

Intrigued what makes it a 'chav' name? Is it anyone that goes against the grain by not calling their sons Henry, William or George?

CobraChicken · 22/05/2024 19:06

I'd think boy. The only one I know personally is a 70-something year old man.

RogueFemale · 22/05/2024 19:11

It doesn't matter. Just nope.

TheCryingTheBitchAndTheFloordrobe · 22/05/2024 19:12

Don't like it at all, sorry, but the only ones I know are girls.

CocoapuffPuff · 22/05/2024 19:12

I'd say it was unisex. I quite like it, but it seems that makes me a chav so shrugs

Marcipex · 22/05/2024 19:14

I only know one, a girl.

Jeannie88 · 22/05/2024 19:15

Only ones I've known have been boys.

TrustPenguins · 22/05/2024 19:18

Boy
