A brother for Amos

Please help. Baby boy due soon and we can't agree on names! I like names that are uncommon but not completely unusual / unheard of. Would like the name to have a strong meaning and sound nice when said with his brothers' name. We are finding lots of boys' names sound too harsh beside it!!

Our current list that we don't really love is:
Boaz
Solomon (too long?)
Simeon (would he be constantly called Simon?)
Shepherd
Jethro
Ozzie / Ozzy (too different?)
Abel
Elias
Gideon
Asa
Albert (nn Bertie)

Would be so grateful for your thoughts and suggestions!!

Farmers, no way! We have never met another Amos

Yes, farmers who were in their 70’s in the 1980’s. Very popular names for flat cap wearing, lovely hard working men who held their trousers up with baler twine instead of belts. Proper salt of the earth true gentlemen.

That's really lovely to visualise our little man being like them!

I had Amos on my list, as well as Abraham (Bram). I also liked Inigo, Sacha, Solomon, Ezekiel, Elijah, Erasmus, Taliesin, Cosmo.

Theoldwoman · 15/05/2024 21:03

I love Elias, but too similar to Amos for me.

Hubby likes Enoch and Abraham. What do we think?

Love them!

fashionqueen0123 · 15/05/2024 21:25

Enoch is always going to remind people of Enoch Powell.

what about Arlo?

Timeforachocolate · 15/05/2024 21:31

Also:

Levi
Caleb
Aaron
Samson
Jonah

CoddledAsAMommet · 15/05/2024 21:33

You can't use Enoch, people will assume you are a massive racist.

With Amos I'd try to avoid anything

  1. massively Old Testament (Micah, Gideon)
  2. massively famer-ish (Jethro)

Ideas:
Linus
Magnus
Sebastian
Tobias

Pallisers · 15/05/2024 22:46

How about Galen?

VJBR · 15/05/2024 22:49

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions! Unfortunately we know a host of the more common biblical names: Ezekiel, Daniel, Noah, Micah, Jude etc etc which has made the search that bit harder!! Neither of us had heard of Enoch Powell so I'm not quite sure the reference would be widely known in our age bracket.

Such a tricky one when you love the first child's name so much.

I love Amos. I've just had a baby and was going to call him Cedric which I love and it's unusual but Cedric's dad in HP is Amos 🙈

FayCarew · 16/05/2024 10:49

What is it you love about the name Amos, @ASuitableName ?
Do you want an OT name?
List of biblical names - Wikipedia

Do you want something that is short and 2-syllables?
Do you want something underused?

Do you want something that isn't related to the Old Testament?
