Delphine? Thoughts?

DD2 will be born next month, sister to Lucy. We're French and British, living in the UK.

What do you all think of the name Delphine?
Would it be received well in the UK? What image/feeling does it conjure for you?

Thank you 🥰

I like (but I'm biased) and it was a contender for DD (now 21). We liked the shortening to Fifi as well.

Other names we considered were:
Iolanthe
Viola
Violette
Manon
Daphne
Leda
Loveday
Imogen
Genevieve (Vivi)
Honor

So pretty - I love it!

LessOfMe99 · 15/05/2024 17:58

It's very pretty.

HappierTimesAhead · 15/05/2024 17:58

Honestly, it makes me think of Delphine Donkey from Peppa Pig as that's the first time I ever came across the name Delphine.

That aside, I think it's a beautiful name and I am sure most people will not make such a random association.

therealcookiemonster · 15/05/2024 17:59

it's absolutely lovely

Cornflowers35 · 15/05/2024 18:00

I love it

BernadetteStBernard · 15/05/2024 18:03

It's a beautiful name

dmango · 15/05/2024 18:05

Love it, we had a ‘Delphi’ in our class one year and she was a sweetie ♥️

Chickoletta · 15/05/2024 18:06

So pretty.

It makes me think of Delphine Donkey who was Peppa Pig’s French penpal, but I suspect that this is a fairly niche cultural reference point…! She was a lovely character anyway.

muddyford · 15/05/2024 18:07

It's lovely name but for me it recalls Delphine Featherstone in 'Open All Hours ', a predatory widow.

Thevelvelletes · 15/05/2024 18:07

Not a kick away from dolphin.

Chickoletta · 15/05/2024 18:07

Just realised that I have echoed @HappierTimesAhead! Hopefully we are the only two…

😂Also, I hear Madame Gazelle's voice saying 'Delphine'.

AdaColeman · 15/05/2024 18:15

An absolutely gorgeous name, I love it.

madameparis · 15/05/2024 18:15

Delphine donkey.

pinkmags · 15/05/2024 18:31

Reminds me of a 🐬 dolphin, which is Delfin in German

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/05/2024 19:04

Delphine donkey might be a thing for young children but older kids probably won’t admit to getting the reference once they grow out of Peppa Pig! I think it’s a pretty name other than that.

clarrylove · 15/05/2024 19:07

Bad memories of my ex MIL who was akin to Hyacinth Bucket! 😭. It doesn't sound as nice in the English accent as a French one.

70sShmeventies · 15/05/2024 19:10

I love it but it makes ‘Lucy’ seem very run of the mill (to a British ear).

Grazyna80 · 15/05/2024 19:14

Beautiful name . Go for it .

GoodVibesHere · 15/05/2024 19:17

Beautiful name, but it does make me instantly think of the donkey in Peppa Pig.

sweetnessandlighter · 15/05/2024 19:31

Love it! So elegant x

mum2jakie · 15/05/2024 19:32

I think of Delphine Donkey too, sorry

Soubriquet · 15/05/2024 19:32

My aunt is called this. She hates her full name and insists on only being called Del.

SirChenjins · 15/05/2024 19:32

I love it - I wanted it for DD but DH vetoed it and 25 years on I still haven’t fully forgiven him.
