Expecting a baby in August. We really want a name that never dates, is beautiful and classic. We can’t use Elizabeth, Clara or Isabelle. Our list so far is

Alice
Anna
Emily/Emma
Eve
Georgia
Kate
Lucy
Maria/Mary

We also like these names but worry they are a bit long or frilly
Annabelle
Beatrice
Felicity
Florence
Lucinda
Madeleine
Verity

I think Maria is my favourite but Emily and Alice are up there. DH loves Verity and Felicity but agrees the are a little frilly.

Opinions or other ideas would be appreciated!

my daughter’s name

but i don’t want to broadcast it!

I love classic names.

While they are classic, names like Eve and Florence are very popular at the minute, so might unwittingly date your child anyway.

If you like Lucinda and Lucy you could always call her Lucinda in full and Lucy day-to-day.

I’ve always loved Alice and would have considered it for mine (I’m due in September) but I had a cat called Alice when I was younger so don’t want people thinking I named the baby after the cat 😂

I love Maria and Beatrice. Classic and can work in many countries / cultures.

usernother · 07/05/2024 15:49

They are all beautiful names.

NetMum2 · 07/05/2024 15:50

I love Maria, Emily and Alice… In fact I really like most of the names on your list! I also like Charlotte and Sofia, but I’m not sure that’s very helpful!

Lilacdew · 07/05/2024 15:50

I love:
Sophia
Lucy
Alice
Beatrice
Georgia

I had boys but my girls' names list was very similar to yours.

Maria is gorgeous and under-used. So are some of the older versions of it: Maryam, Miriam

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/05/2024 15:51

Such lovely names but I don't feel Verity or Felicity as frilly! Strong females names to me.

Lucy is my favourite from your list.

Can I suggest Miranda?

I like Verity and wouldn't say it is frilly, Felicity yes maybe frilly but pretty timeless! I personally would prefer Marianne to Maria, and I think it is probably similarly timeless. Anna, Kate and Lucy/Lucinda also seem timeless to me but others on your list I think might date/are slightly dated

Auntpodder · 07/05/2024 16:00

My sister is an Emma, she likes it alot. Nothing rhymes with it so no dodgy primary school nicknames. It's sort of a strong, dependable, classic name that never goes out of fashion.

OneWorldly4 · 07/05/2024 16:33

Nina

Nicebloomers · 07/05/2024 16:37

Alice is very classic. I like Felicity from your list too and don’t feel it’s particularly frilly.

SushiSushi · 07/05/2024 16:42

I also like:

Julia
Serena
Camille
Penelope
Ruth
Claudia
Caroline
Lily
Tamsin
Saskia

My favourites from your list are...
Alice
Felicity
Lucinda

Eve is part of that large group of Evie Ava names that were hugely popular a few years ago, so there will be a lot of them about. Georgia was extremely popular about twenty years ago, though I'm not sure it is a classic name, very pretty though.
