Hanna - no H

HollsMollsi · 04/05/2024 12:24

Baby girl no.2 is due in July. The only name we both like is Hanna, but without the H at the end, we just don’t like how it looks.
Our older daughter is Bella.
Do you think we are ok to use Hanna without the H on the end? We really don’t like Hannah with the extra H so it would be back to the drawing board which is devastating as I love Hanna !

Everyone will write Hannah on the new baby cards and all her birthday cards forever. She will always be saying ‘Hanna without the H’.

ask me how I know!!

Nicebloomers · 04/05/2024 12:28

Taking the H away not only cheapens the name somewhat but it also staccatos the pronunciation. Either spell it correctly or pick something else.

what about just using Anna instead?

This is very true 🤣

I am Hana and people assume I am Hannah! I do like yours with double L though

UsualChaos · 04/05/2024 12:31

That's how Hannah is spelt in Welsh, so there are plenty in Wales! Don't think you'll find it a problem.

Judgejudysno1fan · 04/05/2024 12:31

Double N!

BoleynMemories13 · 04/05/2024 12:31

I've known Hana but personally I'm not familiar with Hanna and think it would cause her a lot of issues constantly having her name spelt incorrectly. Is an extra h really that much of an issue?

Is Anna an option?

Personally I would always opt for the more usual spelling unless for cultural reasons as it's a pita for children when parents spell their name randomly just because they personally prefer how it looks. Your child might not necessarily agree. It's them that has to live with the consequences.

I know a woman named Hanna, as well as two younger girls. Also know girls and women named Hannah.

Those with the Hanna spelling are Muslim (though not with same country backgrounds) so not sure if that spelling is more common in some backgrounds.

None had issues at my school from what I remember.

AtrociousCircumstance · 04/05/2024 12:51

Totally fine. You’re worrying about nothing. Lots of kids have names that people misspell 🤷‍♀️ Hanna is lovely.

Moreteaandchocolate · 04/05/2024 13:15

It will mean she has to explain the spelling, but there are plenty of names where you have to do that, e.g. Katherine / Kathryn / Catherine etc… Hannah / Hanna is such a lovely name, however it is spelt - if you love it I think you should go for it :)

KezzaMucklowe · 04/05/2024 13:17

It's absolutely fine

SkiingIsHeaven · 04/05/2024 13:19

Is that Bella without a B at the end?

Cinai · 04/05/2024 13:19

I think ‘Hanna’ it’s a male name in some cultures…not sure which ones, but I’ve come across male Hanna’s

Kitkat1523 · 04/05/2024 13:20

think it’s chavvy

Jegersur · 04/05/2024 13:22

It’s fine. Hanna is the normal spelling in several countries, especially East Europe, Scandinavia and Germany. It’s no different than Susannah/Susanna.

Fanchester · 04/05/2024 13:23

“Hannah without the H”

(Other person carefully writes “Annah”)

TitInATrance · 04/05/2024 13:23

My immediate thought was that Hanna without the H is Anna - much classier imo.

MintCrumble · 04/05/2024 13:27

I have a Hanna. It's a family name on both sides. Welsh from DH and Swedish from me.

But op likes Hannah without the last H… Hanna. Not sure why a few suggest Anna that’s a completely different name.

If you like Hanna op then use the name, it won’t be that difficult for people guess it’s Hannah without the H

ridingfreely · 04/05/2024 13:43

I know a Hana it suits her just lovely

Milkand2sugarsplease · 04/05/2024 13:46

There are many names that people have to check spellings of, both old school and modern.

I've had my name spelled wrong my whole life but it doesn't offend me, it's just cos I know there are several spellings. I can't be bothered taking offence at seeing it spelled wrong.

sweetnessandlighter · 04/05/2024 13:57

You'll be giving her a lifetime of people spelling her name wrong and her having to correct them.

MadamMaltesers · 04/05/2024 14:00

I know two girls named Hana and Hanna.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 04/05/2024 14:01

Yes you could; I know one and think it's a... Slavic? spelling.

Hana probably more common a spelling from that area of the world, though.

sunshine2go · 04/05/2024 14:03

I associate Hanna with the Islamic spelling as I know several. So for me, not being Muslim, I personally wouldn't use that spelling.

I am generally for traditional spellings or choose another name type person. Besides it's sounds exactly the same and I think Hannah looks much prettier.
