Dh and I can't agree and keep going back and forth.

Both lovely names. I prefer Jacob over Joseph but Joseph over Jake.

Snoopystick · 02/05/2024 09:25

Both names are lovely but there seems to be a lot of Jacobs so I’d choose Joseph.

Sunshineclouds11 · 02/05/2024 09:29

Jacob

starlingcook · 02/05/2024 09:29

I don't like Jacob it doesn't quite roll off the tongue, I like Jake better but prefer and Joseph.

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/05/2024 09:31

Both are lovely - I can see your dilemma! Joseph is less common, if that’s important to you? I personally prefer the full name Joseph to the full name Jacob, but I prefer the short version Jake to Joe! I think I’d personally pick Jacob / Jake as in the long run it’s likely that the short version of the name is the one he’ll use most often

virginqueen · 02/05/2024 10:24

I love them both, and also the shortened versions, Jane and Joe. They are classic names that will suit the child throughout his life. Too many names now only seem to work for small children. You've got to think about them at 18, 38 or 58 !

virginqueen · 02/05/2024 10:25

Obviously I meant Jake and Joe !

TenThousandSpoons · 02/05/2024 10:26

Both lovely. I’d go for Joseph.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 02/05/2024 10:26

Joseph

MissedItByThisMuch · 02/05/2024 10:28

Much prefer Joseph and love Joe.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/05/2024 10:28

Joseph nn Joe.

Jacob is really common

stopringingme · 02/05/2024 10:29

Both are lovely names but I like Joseph slightly more than Jacob

LauderSyme · 02/05/2024 10:30

They are both lovely names.

I think Joseph is much more likely to constantly get shortened to Joe than Jacob is to Jake.

I prefer Jacob and Jake to Joseph and Joe.

ViveLaOeuf · 02/05/2024 10:31

Joseph is lovely

Lotsalotsagiggles · 02/05/2024 10:34

Joey?

mrsed1987 · 02/05/2024 10:37

I prefer Jacob to Joseph but I don't like Jake

WrongSortOfPoster · 02/05/2024 10:44

Joseph. Which sounds best with your surname, Jake or Joe?

FlameTulip · 02/05/2024 10:45

Jacob

HairyToity · 02/05/2024 10:46

I love both. Unfortunately DH has a close friend with a son called Jacob, and a cousin with a Joseph. They would have been on our list otherwise.

ThePensivePig · 02/05/2024 10:47

Biased as I have a Joseph (young adult now, goes by Joe). I love both names though.

bodminbeast · 02/05/2024 10:51

Joseph

AdaColeman · 02/05/2024 10:51

Both are lovely names, but Jacob has been in the top ten names for many years, so there will be a lot of Jacobs. I'd use Joseph, as it will be a little more unusual a name.

WelshWannabe · 02/05/2024 10:59

Jacob is my choice.

I have a Jacob though so I'm biased. He's 15yrs old now, and although people say it's a common/popular name, we've only ever met 1 other.

He's never had his name shortened to Jake.

OpenRobin · 02/05/2024 11:00

Personally prefer Jacob (and Jake) but both really nice names

vanillaclouds · 02/05/2024 11:05

I have a Joseph, so obviously I love it, it's popular enough to find his name on the personalised gift items but not so popular that he has to go by Joseph (insert initial) because there's not 5 others in the class.
