no hatrick I think if you are ACTUALLY cornish and you ACTUALLY live there and you can PROVE you are Cornish (weather beaten face, handy with a fishing rod, able to knock up a pasty on short notice), then it is OK

Otherwise it is not

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 22:58

Urbancool

Jago
Ruby (not any more)
Stan
Esme
Lola (becoming a bit too common like Ruby)
Pearl

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:00

Yeah there were two Lola Graces in the times on the same day last week. Parents spitting I bet!!

So funny this. I knew of kids with all these names when I lived in SW London, where 900 sq ft of house set you back 600,000k

Now here in Ireland, I know one. A Pearl. And her family have some weird P theme going, which takes all the cool out of it and just makes it pyuck.

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:00

oh Dylan. If I hear of another Dylan ("after Bob ha ha") I'll puke

Nancy, is that urban cool?

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:01

Dylan after Dylan Walsh more like!!!

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:02

No sorry, that's not right. Brandon and Brenda were the Walshes.

Now Brenda, that's urban cool, right?

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:02

I bet there are at least 10 Lola Graces being born on a daily basis

What is it with sticking Grace in the middle of everything? Last couple of years it was Ella Grace. Billions of them. Someone would tell you they'd had a baby and say "she is Ella Grace" and you'd go "wow! how LOVELY!" instead of what you were really thinking which was "after 9 months you came up with that?"

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:03

Yes, Nancy is sort of Urban Cool but more for your Trustafarian type of Urban rather than your Meedjia type

Gabriel ("Gabe for short")
Noah used to be but is now two a penny, parents of 10 year old Noahs are furious about that too

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:04

Agree totally! Jane would make me go oooohhhh what a change from Grace. Or Anne.

I am not guilty of bunging Grace in the middle slot.

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:05

Nancy is the new Martha
Nancy will wander down into the middle classes and then start hitting the rest of the UK and the Camerons will be Sad.

Just like Samantha did in the 60s onwards actually, must run in the family

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:06

I keep urging friends to call their little boys John. It is so retro chic I think, nobody has named a child John in this country for nearly 20 years it seems

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:09

I love John and Peter! And I love Victor. Bit quirkier. Is it the new Oscar though?? hope not.

But I'm a freak over names. I want to see people wince when I tell them my children's names. If they like them I worry.

There is a John(ny) in my dd's class. I think he stands out.

mybabysinthegarden · 02/04/2008 23:10

One Mungo registered in Scotland in 2006. (10 Murdos... 7 Munros... I may be on this website all night...)

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:10

Just thinking Dragon, you know your stuff. Are you my hero CK Evans posting on a Brit board for research purposes???!

bundle · 02/04/2008 23:11

surely Margaret (Margot) is the new Nancy?

Murdo!! That's hilarious. SOme kind of homage to the A-team, crossed with a nod to the 'o' trend???

pointydog · 02/04/2008 23:11

Mungo, not unheard of in Scotland.

But it would be cruel

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:12

Oh lord Mungo is 100 times better than Murdo, that is just a scary name

Madame do you think I would have my finger so exquisitely placed upon the pulse of the English class system if I was some sort of FOREIGNER?

pointydog · 02/04/2008 23:12

A Murdo at school with me

Female equivalent is Murdina

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 23:13

I love Margot. Always have done. I would be one of those furious parents if Margot becomeds the new RUby.

But I guess once your child gets to about 18 you don't care!

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:14

John can never be an urban cool name
It may well be a return to sanity (they haven't started popping up around here though). Much as Molly, Lara, Alice, Ella were never Urban Cool, just incredibly overused and yawn-making.

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 23:15

Murdina
My god

That might knock Tegwyn of it's long held (9 years) perch as my most hated girls name ever.
Although I actually know someone who named her kid Tegwyn (say it out loud - DREADFUL) and I refuse to believe anyone has saddled their child with Murdina
