Very very cool name

LaDiDaDi · 02/04/2008 20:52

Cruel, cruel cruel.

tribpot · 02/04/2008 20:53

Cruel - although worse if you went for 'St Mungo'.

I've never understood St Mungo. It sounds like the name of a dog food. Not his fault, obviously.

MissPaulaYates · 02/04/2008 20:58

cooooool

not cruel at all and why would it be?

Eliza2 · 02/04/2008 21:06

I don't think anyone was suggesting you'd prefix the name with Saint. Why on earth would you do that?

I know one Mungo--a jazz piano player and footballer. Very nimble on his feet. And not one bit pretentious.

MioMao · 02/04/2008 21:10

definitely cruel...

Candygram for Mungo! Candygram for Mungo!
mmmm Mungo like candy

southeastastra · 02/04/2008 21:15

reminds me of mary, mungo and midge, which is quite nice.

mungo jerry too, suppose it's quite nice.

minorityrules · 02/04/2008 21:16

miomao, was reading the thread repeating in my head, candygram for mungo in a singsong voice

I love that film

Blandmum · 02/04/2008 21:21

One of my all time fav films.

'I hear someone say 'Draw Mister' And I turned round and saw a little kid. So I put my gun down and walked away......and the little bastard shot me in the ass!'

southeastastra · 02/04/2008 21:29

lol it was on last night, but i had to turn over, great film

tribpot · 02/04/2008 21:32

Saint Mungo I wasn't being completely random!

3andnomore · 02/04/2008 21:41

Mungo? Is that a name...? Personally not so keen on that one !

Janni · 02/04/2008 21:47

I do not like the sound of the name and it makes me think of a)the charity for homeless people called St Mungo's and b) the 1970s children's TV prog. 'Mary, Mungo and Mitch'

Blueskythinker · 02/04/2008 21:51

Sorry, only appropriate for a dog.

Eliza2 · 02/04/2008 22:25

I'm surprised that some respected MNers feel it's ok to keep saying these things when a MNer has told us it's her son's name.

I agree too Eliza

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 22:43

WEll then, shall we introduce a rule where if the original poster asks for comments about a name that is your child's name, you don't post on that thread?!

Cos otherwise, people are watching what they say, and that's not what the OP wanted. She wanted honesty!

I've had my son's name mocked on the US board and I kuddnee give a rrrats.

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 22:45

my dd's best friend's little brother is called Mungo.
his mum is lovely, slightly alternative and slightly on another planet in a Toast-wearing kind of way (the catalogue not the food), and after my initial "woah! Mungo!" reaction I think it is fine. In the context of the family he is in. And none of his friends seem to have a problem with it.

Mungo Jerry was kind of cool after all....

Well if you love it, go for it. It isn't cruel, certainly, although it isn't everyone's first choice (as seen by the answers to this thread!)

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 22:47

My friend was going to call her baby Rollo if it was a boy. Thankfully it was a girl.

I think Mungo is quite normal compared to Rollo! It's all relative.

DragonPeaHead · 02/04/2008 22:48

Now you see having read this properly I see that people objecting to Mungo are suggesting Cosmo and Jago

Jago is, IMO an incredibly ugly and pretentious name chosen by the "urban cool" who probably called their daughter Ruby in 1997 and are now FURIOUS that it is so common

Cosmo is the name of a wanker. No getting around it. And you know his father (specifically) is also a wanker for agreeing to such a wanky name.

Whereas Mungo is eccentric and slightly loveable and mad.

Not that I'm generalising or anything

chipkid · 02/04/2008 22:53

wasn't it "mary Mungo and Midge?" Janni-that great programme was my first thought too!

MadameCh0let · 02/04/2008 22:53

DragonPeaHead, I think you're right. When I was pg 3 yrs ago I really wanted to call my son Bruno. Badly. Now I'm so glad that I wasn't allowed to (by ex). For the Ruby reason. The Ruby effect I'll call it..

I'm fascinated though, what other names are 'urban cool'?
