Impressions about Maristella?

Just that, really… what would you think?

Have you ever come across one in person or in the media, or would you think it’s made up (without googling, ideally!)?

Would you naturally assume a particular ethnicity/background/religion?

And do you like it?

OP posts:

LieutenantJumboJr · 19/04/2024 18:59

Sounds like a contraceptive or feminine hygiene project to me sorry.

MaggieFS · 19/04/2024 18:59

Sounds like something functional to me, but I read it as Maris-tella and then thought perhaps it could be maree-Stella?

I don't like it.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/04/2024 18:59

I think I’d assume it was Marie-Stella if I didn’t see it written down. I haven’t heard it before and I don’t love it (but it could grow on me maybe)

BirthdayRainbow · 19/04/2024 19:00

Awful. Made up. Parents trying to be interesting but forgetting they are naming the person they are supposed to love most in the world.

BingoMarieHeeler · 19/04/2024 19:00

Never heard of it, Spanish, and for some reason I just imagine a middle aged dumpy person. I’m so sorry! Absolutely love Stella on its own though. I don’t know a single non-middle-aged Mary/Marie/Maria but I know they were babies once so it doesn’t make sense!

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 19/04/2024 19:02

Potato or beer

TM1979 · 19/04/2024 19:05

Hideous. Did you make it up?

RaininSummer · 19/04/2024 19:10

Sorry but it's ghastly. I thought it might be a brand of contraceptive pill.

ArnoldArnoldArnoldR · 19/04/2024 19:12

I'd assume devout Catholic parents - like Ave Maris Stella. I think it's one of Our Lady's loveliest titles, and I would really like the name, personally.

twentysevendresses · 19/04/2024 19:18

I actually didn't see that this was 'Baby Names' before I clicked, and thought I was clicking on a 'places to go on holiday' and was hoping for an interesting new destination. So on that basis alone OP...absolutely not! 🤦‍♀️

HoldingTheDoor · 19/04/2024 18:49

It sounds like a cruise ship.

That was my first thought as well!

Axx · 19/04/2024 19:19

Cruise ship here too

Olika · 19/04/2024 19:22

I really don't like it.

NoraLuka · 19/04/2024 19:25

I like it.

But I once started a thread asking if anyone else likes the name Cydonia (nobody did) so make of that what you will.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 19/04/2024 19:28

Yeah should be Stella maris- star of the sea.
Name of a seaman's mission in Liverpool

DrJoanAllenby · 19/04/2024 19:34

Awful.

Marielle is a lovely name.

MrsMoiraRose · 19/04/2024 19:35

I grew up in Ireland where we had a lot of Mary-Jo(sephine), Mary-Pat(ricia), Mary-Francis type names and also Marie-Claire, Marie-Anne. All pronounced meery (Mary) or marry (Marie)

Anyway, it isn't really out there to my ear, but does sound dated, like something from my mum's generation (mid 1950s baby). So it wouldn't be for me.

I don't think it's awful though. Stella-Marie is nicer imo if you want the two names together?

LauderSyme · 19/04/2024 19:41

It somehow seems to have too many letters which makes it clumsy.

I prefer some of the other options offered on this thread.

SalmonWellington · 19/04/2024 19:43

I like it too!

Mandarinaduck · 19/04/2024 20:00

Sounds very Latin American to me - i have come across quite a lot of unusual blended names like this. I quite like it.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 19/04/2024 20:04

Sounds like it should be a prettier name than it is. What about Estella?

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 19/04/2024 20:12

Sorry op straight away I thought it was alcohol

HappyEater · 19/04/2024 20:13

Yeah, sounds like contraceptives

Bouledeneige · 19/04/2024 20:13

Sounds made up. Or like a type of foot infection.

VladimirVsVolodymyr · 19/04/2024 20:32

It's is an actual name like nestle and Aroa. I used to work with all three people.
