Good morning. Our daughter is called Amelia nn Mia who everyone knows her by. Need help naming her sister. I love Amelie but too close to Amelia unfortunately. Please help us decide between Sienna and Isabella. Many thanks in advance x

Sienna

sarahsunny · 11/04/2024 07:45

Isabella is classier than Sienna.

Layla is a beautiful name. Found it so much more difficult naming another daughter as love the name Mia so much!

Do you want both names to end in the same sound or are you open to alternatives?

AdaColeman · 11/04/2024 08:01

Sienna.

lsabella (and it's many variants) is hugely popular, and has been for some years now.

Open to alternatives

I voted for Isabella because it goes brilliantly with Amelia imo - it’s got the same classic, timeless vibe as Amelia, plus it shortens nicely to a 2 syllable version (Issy or Bella), the same as Amelia shortens to Mia.

Sienna is a nice name but more modern / trendy sounding (to me).

MamaBanana12 · 11/04/2024 08:18

Lydia
Phoebe

PivotPivotmakingmargaritas · 11/04/2024 08:25

I think Amelia/Mia & Isabella/ Sienna are too matchy matchy with the name ending in the same sound

Of the two I agree Isabella much classier than Sienna

Mia and Grace
Mia and Felicity
Mia and Alice
Mia and Rose
Mia and Lily

rainbowstardrops · 11/04/2024 08:35

Would you be looking to shorten the name to a nn like you have with Amelia/Mia?
Isabella could be shortened to Isy or Bella but what would you shorten Sienna to? Cece I suppose?
I prefer Isabella personally

I wouldn’t shorten Sienna but her friends might so that doesn’t really bother me so much

although Isabella and the various forms are so popular, it’s more upmarket than Sienna and goes better with Amelia.

Why is it more upmarket?

Isabella is an old name and has been used for centuries. Sienna is fairly new and modern, so will probably get dated quite quickly.
CeC/SiSi short for Sienna is awful IMO.

Babies called Sienna in England & Wales since 1996 (darkgreener.com)
It probably became popular when Sienna Miller became famous.

HoHoHoliday · 11/04/2024 12:12

Of the two choices I prefer Sienna, I just love that name so much.
But the two Siennas I know both use Sia for short, and as you have a Mia short for Amelia that wouldn't work.
So based on that alone I'd choose Isabella.

Clearinguptheclutter · 11/04/2024 12:17

I’d prefer Isabella, nn Bella but I think they’re all a bit too matchy.

I’d go for something a bit different like Felicity, Rose

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2024 12:52

Amelia and Mia are both extremely popular. So are Isabella and Bella, so I'd go with that.

BoleynMemories13 · 11/04/2024 13:57

Isabella suits Amelia far more in terms of style and nn potential.

schloss · 11/04/2024 14:03

Isabeau instead of Isabella?

Gabriella.

Saying that Sienna is nice.

Depends where you are, as Sienna is hardly unusual either. I know far more girls called Sienna than I do Isabella, which has never felt overly popular where I am.

Isabella is also falling on a national scale, whereas Sienna is rising. They were only a few places apart in the 2021 ONS stats, which is the latest available, so I really don't think popularity can be used as a for or against argument when pitying these two against each other as there really isn't much in it either way.

Strawberrycheesecake7 · 11/04/2024 14:08

Isabella is a lovely name. I’m not a huge fan of Sienna.

Darcy86 · 11/04/2024 14:11

Another vote for Isabella. Classier and goes better IMO. congrats!

Mich8 · 11/04/2024 14:12

Yes to Amelia and Isabella, Mia and Bella.

Mia and Ceecee. No. They are different kinds of nicknames and full names imo. Mia is quite pretty like Bella whereas I think Ceecee (or Sisi) is a bit more… zippy?
