Good morning. Our daughter is called Amelia nn Mia who everyone knows her by. Need help naming her sister. I love Amelie but too close to Amelia unfortunately. Please help us decide between Sienna and Isabella. Many thanks in advance x

Isabella is much nicer. Sienna is common (in both senses of the word).

plebbler · 11/04/2024 14:27

Isabella definitely

It's really classy and goes lovely with Mia/Amelia

I find Sienna really chavy I have to be honest :-( and it just feels really forced in a way that I can't quite put my finger on

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2024 14:39

Isabeau instead of Isabella? Absolutely not.

Mimrr · 11/04/2024 14:45

Isabella much better. Sienna will date badly and has no good short versions.
Lila rather than Layla which is very Arabic so not a good fit if you’re not. Or even better, Lily. Lillian

CurlewKate · 11/04/2024 14:46

I'd go for Isobel.

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2024 15:03

@Mimrr , Layla isn't really 'very Arabic', it's very Eric Clapton Smile
The name is from Laila pronounced Ligh-la which means 'night' in Arabic. Lila is probably from Delilah.

I think Layla and Lila are a bit 'of the moment', and I don't like the Layla spelling.
Leila seems much more classic.

I really like both. I'd probably pick Isabella (or Isabel) because I really like old names, but Sienna is lovely too.

I know you're not looking for third options, but what about Aurelie if you like the French vibe of Amelie?

Toomuchgoingon79 · 11/04/2024 15:11

Isabella definitely. Mia and Izzy/Belle/Bella

Thank you, we did think about Aurelia but seemed to similar to Amelia. Hadn’t thought of Aurelie

Shame you do not like it - my middle name.

timetodeclutter · 11/04/2024 15:54

@schloss oh dear!

FWIW I think that Isabeau is a gorgeous name (also Ysabeau)

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2024 16:05

@schloss , I didn't say I didn't like it.

Isabeau is lovely but we don’t have any French connections which I personally don’t think matters but think Isabella easier for people to spell or pronounce?

Definitely.

timetodeclutter · 11/04/2024 16:22

Yes I'm sure that Isabeaus (or is that Isabeaux?!) outside France would find themselves correcting people a lot. And even more so for Ysabeau.

I really do like Isabelle/Isabel, Isobel (if you're Scottish), and Isabella

shoopshoopdedoo · 11/04/2024 20:22

Definitely Isabella over Sienna! Although I prefer Isabel.

TwilightSkies · 11/04/2024 20:26

Ugh the snobs are out in force 🙄

I think Sienna is much prettier.

AverageJoan · 11/04/2024 20:31

Another vote for Sienna here too

I also love Lydia, as a PP mentioned above

Beatrixslobber · 11/04/2024 20:34

Isabella is far nicer.
Also like Amelia and Grace.

Toe87 · 11/04/2024 20:37

Name from my home, Grognak. Means strong and valiant

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2024 21:06

What language is it from @Toe87 ? How do you say it?
